Continued… How did Lowes achieve such a standard? The answer lies in the landscape Biomimicry of wetland environments that play off of what you may find in the natural landscapes of North Carolina are what make this landscape so efficient and successful. The designers managed to create a setting that takes little effort to control, because it works to control itself. The key to this kind of design is smart selection of materials, application, and plants.
The Use of Native Plants Using native plants or cultivars of native plants found in North Carolina and similar wetland climates helps the landscape to take care of many of its own needs by using the climatic conditions provided by nature alone. Of course, they must be maintained and cared for to a certain degree based on Lowes’ aesthetic standards, but a landscape that works to create a native environment fosters healthier plant cycles, wildlife integration, pollination, and efficient use of resources such as water. Big Changes Ahead? Large corporations like Lowes can really change the way society views big industry names. Imagine if every corporation took the time to plan a sustainable headquarters and make sustainable principles one of the foundational components of their mission statements. What would happen if every Fortune 500 company decided to only build and design in the most energy- and resource-efficient ways possible? All it takes is a few steps to make change, and Lowes is a company that is showcasing — at least through the applications on this site — how smart planning can pay off for the environment, workers, and long-term expenses while simultaneously delivering us a high-quality landscape where people want to spend time. Is the meshing of stylized design and sustainability something every new build should be trying to encompass?Full Project Credits for Lowes Corporate Headquarters
