I would start by asking yourself a different question. What do you enjoy most in life and what are the things you are naturally good at? Thanks for explaining. I can agree with that. I find myself inspired by older published work by Ian McHarg and Jane Jacobs but not so much by recent writings… Maybe it’s because McHarg and Jacobs were more like leaders/activists than designer or writer.

I don’t understand what the NY Times editorial page has to do with this post. The abstract by Mr. Thayer, dated or not, still brings to mind a lot of issues about “sustainable” landscapes that Landscape Architects struggle with today. I have had a similar experience with ‘greywater’ systems in Portland, OR. These are usually part of the municipal systems and are classified as ‘non-potable’. I think that it is possible to use ‘greywater’ for irrigation on commercial projects – but my instincts tell me that arch / land arch don’t do it because the permitting process and long term…[Read more]
