Hey Kev, funny we should be communicating this way instead of calling but wondered if any of you out there would want to start a sub group of residential for traditional/classical. Not many out there but I think would help to focus the discussion. Not that interested in what’s ‘hip’. Trying to keep a long view. No offense to the fashionistas. ps…[Read more]

Can anyone point out a good source for sustainability and materials and methods. It felt great on the exam, but something has to be missing. Im floating between 2s and 3s and I have referenced many books that I have. Do the practice exams help?

Alland,
Something I can think of right now are,
Pavement Cross sections, look for
-thickness of concrete
-proper placement of filter fabric
-water proofing etc
Stairs
-Riser thread heights or riser tread combined dimensions
-Handrail height, end handrail wrap up
Gaurdrails- spacing between rails, height, minimum requirement of gaurd…[Read more] -

Great, thanks for the help!
I think I’m going to buy the LaGro book to start with and try to get the other ones through interlibrary loan (which never even occurred to me at first).
I would eventually like to buy all of them, but that’s almost $600 for all the books (used), exam fee, and study guides, so that’ll have to wait. -

The test had questions from all four books. I think the Site Analysis by LaGro would be the most important followed by the Booth and Russ books. I suggest you read them all though if you are serious about passing the exam. They are great books to have in your library for referencing throughout your career so make the investment if you can. Als…[Read more]

Jessica, you should be able to get all these books at your local library through interlibrary loan.

Jessica,
I have Site Analysis, and Site Planning & Design Handbook. I read both of them, but only skimmed the Site Planning book. Definitely read Site Analysis and get the PPI study material, and maybe the CLARB practice test. That is what got me to pass this time.

Thanks Tim and Cynthia. Next webinar will really get into strategic thinking about perspectives and drawing composition – my favorites! I’ll cook up some more video clips and hopefully control the camera focus a bit more than in last night’s program.

Webinar was really great – nice mix of refresher and new info. So helpful to keep up to date on materials and processes and see through Jim’s crystal ball into the future.

Hello all.. Any plant buffs out there have experience with Panicum virgatum ‘heavy metal’ or ‘Northwind’ in the SF bay area? Based on the zone specs it should be fine but my broker hasn’t sold too many of them and couldn’t comment on how they perform in the area… any help would be appreciated.

Tad, I don’t know why Russ would write it as 1:4. That’s not the “conventional” way of doing it.

Ray and everyone,
I am taking B here shortly but I have a lingering question about the slope steepness ratio method. Norman Booth is writing it horizontal first, verical second 4:1(Basic Elements of Landscape Architectural Design, page 31). Thomas Russ is writing it in reverse 1:4 (Site Planning and Design, Page 125) Is there a reason why the…[Read more] -
