LDS Landscape Architects 17 years, 4 months agoI did hear about it! I don’t know who is going to design the temple but I hope they rely on the beautiful and rich history and architecture for inspiration. Can’t wait to see the finished product! If you end up getting an inside scoop on any details let us know. A good friend of mine designed the Sacramento Temple, I got to see it go through the…[Read more]

Planning Profession and Landscape Architecture 17 years, 5 months agoHere’s an example of the political aspect of planning and landscape architecture:
Nrschmid:
“However, some of them [landscape architects] struggle to find the underlying meaning in the ordinances and what has been established by plan commissions as precedent. For example, one community’s ordinance might allow Betula nigra (River birch) but the r…[Read more] -

LDS Landscape Architects 17 years, 5 months agoAnyone hear about the temple to be built in Rome? It’s great to finally see a temple going into the Catholic stronghold. Any Ideas who is doing the Temple grounds? I would love a crack at it.

Planning Profession and Landscape Architecture 17 years, 6 months agoZoning is way to control activities, which is important for a city. But as we all know cities are dynamic, some people even suggest that the city is a living organisim. froming this point of view, “zoing” should work in different ways comparing with exisiting and conventional “zoning” practices.
I think “zoning” is also a tool for the authority to…[Read more] -

Planning Profession and Landscape Architecture 17 years, 6 months agoWell, that wasn’t he part of the quote that I was trying to emphasize, I’m not going to stand here and say that the government has cornered the market on corruption, the argument really isn’t about morality, its about social functions.
You are entitled to your assessment of Jane Jacob’s work but her contribution to urban design theory is…[Read more]

Planning Profession and Landscape Architecture 17 years, 6 months agoGood points, I suppose another important distinction to draw as we continue the conversation is that a planner’s role will vary greatly depending on if he or she is employed by a municipality or by a private sector consulting firm.
I suppose what I meant in my earlier post is that I have been impressed by the work of the private sector planners…[Read more]

Planning Profession and Landscape Architecture 17 years, 6 months agonrschimid,
I know a few LA/Planners. AICP is a cool credential to have behind your name, a good friend of mine (who is a planner) says it stands for “Any Idiot Can Plan”.
Planning is an interesting subject. There are many professions that recognize the importance of good planning in our built environment but we take many different avenues to…[Read more]

LDS Landscape Architects 17 years, 9 months agoI think that the temple square complex is one of my favorites. Growing up in utah made it and easy one to visit. because its at church headquarters it recieves a lot of visitors and thus a bigger buget. I also like nauvoo. With nauvoo I really like the historical feel of the place but my one complaint is that it feels and looks like an abandoned…[Read more]

I agree with you. The grounds are always nice and impressive however (from pictures I have seen) it looks like they lack cultural flavor. I think the grounds should be unique to the region/country reflect the culture more, become a gaurdian of identity. Much like they do with the architecture. I hope to do some temple design as well. I…[Read more] -

LDS Landscape Architects 17 years, 9 months agoI would like to one day design the temple grounds for a new temple. I think that it would be an interesting challenge to make the grounds have the same effect on patrons as the interiors do. The grounds that I have seen certainly do justice to the buildings their complimenting but I would really like to see If I could take the grounds to the next…[Read more]
