L.A.R.E. – ANYTHING GOES 13 years, 10 months agohi Stephanie,
For section D, are there any new materials. I’ve taken the class 5 years ago. I really need to pass before the new change.Anyone, want to have study group strictly for D? I’m in Orange County, CA or we can just do emailing to share study materials. Thanks

Portfolios and Resumes – Design Strategies 13 years, 11 months agoPage:
Actually, I did those relatively new to the profession a bit of a service by pointing out to them one far more affordable and easily accessible alternative than the costly online option your self-promoting here.
I have no qualms with the value and utility of your online course, I just find the asking price, far too steep and so would most…[Read more] -

Portfolios and Resumes – Design Strategies 13 years, 11 months agoSami,
I’d recommend using ‘landscape designer’ (I’ve seen this most often) or maybe even ‘recent landscape architect graduate’. If you use ‘landscape architect in-training’ check w/your state registration board to make sure that there aren’t any ‘conflicts’.
As far as looking for jobs: the ones that generally apply to college grads would be ‘…[Read more] -

Portfolios and Resumes – Design Strategies 13 years, 11 months agoHey Page:
You need to really get a clue here. It appears your somewhat disconnected from the true reality of the marketplace. Let me be specific, in case you can’t be.
There is massive unemployment in the design professions and thast has been pervasive going on nearly three years. You are offering a “sure-fire” or “near-fire” portfolio and…[Read more] -

Portfolios and Resumes – Design Strategies 13 years, 11 months agoSami,
One of my recent students listed their current job as “landscape architect in training” to avoid this snafu.
I would suggest visiting the ASLA job board to see how others with your level of experience are handling it. Here are some samples of student portfolio websites that include resumes for other ideas on wording and layout: Samples r…[Read more] -

Portfolios and Resumes – Design Strategies 13 years, 11 months agoI have a quick question about resumes. I will be graduating this coming May will my BLA. I am in the process of cleaning up my resume and cover letter. In looking for jobs to apply for, I always search landscape architecture, since that is my specific degree. I am not yet, however, a registered landscape architect since I am entry level. Ca…[Read more]

MENTORS: WISE and TRUSTED counselors or teachers. 14 years agoFor me mentoring is a lot to do with conversation, and whenever I get the chance I like nothing better than to sit down and chat.
There are however many people whom I admire that I have not yet met, and one of those would be Zaha Hadid.
Of those I am unlikely to meet I would have to name Francis Bacon. I really love his work, but I also like wha…[Read more] -

MENTORS: WISE and TRUSTED counselors or teachers. 14 years agoThis is my 5th recession, it took me years to recover from the savings & loan crash. i thought i had a safe niche, no more developer or commercial work. i have focused on high-end high design residential and cultural projects which i was sure was recession proof. what do i know? the last few years i could have used a mentor.
i started a blog…[Read more] -

UK Landscape Architecture 14 years, 1 month agoI’ll have to disagree with a part of the group comment, that one about Martha Schwartz. It is perfectly justified what she said about UK’s landscape Architecture and the impossibility of the Landscape Architects from UK to overcome some bad habits. She pointed righteously at back garden culture and I’d top it up with slavery towards public’s c…[Read more]
