Thanks Leslie,
I have previously passed section D but now need to retake due to not having passed E.
I wonder if you are familiar with D? And if so, how you would compare the two tests.
Best Wishes – Jennifer -

i would recommend writing the note: “DESIGN ONLY. NOT FOR CONSTRUCTION” on each of your drawings unless your drawings are Construction Documents or unless they are being used to attain approval from Building or Planning. This note will clearly speak to the fact that you are not intending the drawing to be built as drawn and will help prove (if…[Read more]

jennifer Bloch replied to the topic What is VALUE PROPOSITION for Landscape Architects? in the forum PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE 12 years, 7 months ago
hi chris – in my experience civils do not use grading as a design tool but they execute grading like an engineer (without certain sensitivities). there’s a difference. imho

imho
Grading/Drainage is perhaps the one thing that all LA’s must be able to do that most architects, etc… cannot. -
jennifer Bloch replied to the topic Cal Licensure…Liability in the forum PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE 12 years, 9 months ago
the firm isn’t a landscape architecture firm if the owners/principals are not landscape architects.
the firm isn’t allowed to do any work in the profession of landscape architecture.
schematic plans landscape plans for private residential projects (without call-outs) and planting plans (without specifications) are the only drawings that the firm…[Read more] -

the MLK memorial at Yerba Buena Gardens near MOMA, the insane bamboo garden at 560 Mission Street (Hart Howerton LA, Cesar Pelli architect…), and across the street 555: sculptural green wall and fixtures, and also the landscape and fixtures in the outdoor space by the jewish museum (all these things are on Mission Street – in a concise area)….

I’m new to this thread – but having recently and successfully taken the multi-choice sections of the LARE, I thought it was worth noting that while one may not need to be a member of the ASLA, the LARE still tests for ASLA codes of conduct. And until one has taken these tests and understands the process of passing them, one will not fully…[Read more]

jennifer Bloch replied to the topic If you are not a registered LA, why haven't you gotten the stamp? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 13 years, 6 months ago
Architects legally can stamp the landscape documents in CA if they have directly supervised the work being done; but why rely on an architect when it is possible as a licensed landscape architect to stamp the drawings without having to be supervised…legally?

Ordinarily I wouldn’t give such a blunt + ignorant comment the time of day mauiBob; but
these redlines hardly seem ‘frivolous’. If not for the redline review in Elizabeth Renton’s case, she wouldn’t have discovered that she actually passed.
Congratulations Elizabeth.

jennifer Bloch replied to the topic Can you suggest a different material? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 13 years, 9 months ago
another option:
you could pour concrete (integrally colored) for the risers and retaining edges. it would cost more than the wood (maybe) but it would never rot out and it costs less than stone and looks better than those stone-wanna-be-paver-systems like keystone. the longevity factor might make the case for the investment.
You could do u…[Read more] -

In the Bay Area (will presume you mean outside…) – well, I like airplants. And also sedum(varieties) and iceplant (varieties). also Ficus pumilla repens to grow directly on walls in deep shade. I have used these plants from Hillsborough up to Coastal Sonoma, in Marin, SF (the sunset) and in Berkeley down by the water….
