LE:NOTRE mundus Online Seminar Summer 2010 "Cultural Landscapes" 15 years, 10 months agoi agree Yalçın, it was a good presentation! You know Erden from Ege uni., he is re-searching about industrial places as i heared from Mr Güney. You can also ask him.
What about your thesis issue? Did you already find a topic-why dont you write about industrial areas? -

California Native Plants 15 years, 10 months agoGlenn, and all
True that clients like to see green plants in the summer. Which is why some designers advocate a mix of native (80%) and non-native (20%) plants. The non-natives – which may require some summer water – stay green while the natives go summer brown. -

Professor's Lounge 15 years, 10 months agoJust wondering how others are faring the extended barrage of budget cuts at public universities – seems to be happening everywhere. One of my current concerns is the increase in class size. We at the U. of Arizona are bringing together grad LA, Planning and Architecture classes with undergrad architecture classes, in the name of integration of the…[Read more]

L.A.R.E. – ANYTHING GOES 15 years, 10 months agoOnce upon a time, the reference manual had symbols for plants used in planting plan vignettes. These disappeared in 2006. I suspect this is what you may be referring to.
Susannah,
One vignette solution showed a swale constructed entirely in fill adjacent to a road. There was clearly no need for a swale given the existing topo depicted. They also…[Read more]

California Native Plants 15 years, 10 months agoSince many of our native plants go dormant in the summer as a survival technique to dry summers, I’m saying “advantageous for the summer-dry months” as it relates to the clients who prefer to see green plants and leaves still hanging onto their Buckeyes. Alternatively, Juncus, Western Sword Fern, and Iris, for instance, often receive summer water…[Read more]

California Native Plants 15 years, 10 months agoGlenn Do you really need to irrigate these plants that you mention in summer? They are native to N California, and so in a “natural” context do not get any summer water. Why would you need to irrigate them in a cultured situation?

The Sustainable Sites Initiative 15 years, 10 months agoHello Tamera,
Well, As a LEED AP, I can tell you that LEED doesn’t deal with the spaces BETWEEN the buildings on a level that is watershed centric, site planning, soils responsive. LEED does not give points for passive solutions, but favors mechanical solutions. In so many ways, LEED is very narrow, and SSI is very broad. Those are just a few…[Read more] - Load More
