LARE Multiple Choice Discussion 15 years, 2 months agoI like it a lot. It takes you through the entire process. the analysis, programming for the different types of designs, sustainability, grading, infrastructure, and restoring and preserving landscapes.

LARE Multiple Choice Discussion 15 years, 2 months agoI’m setting this discussion group up as an information exchange resource for people sitting for the exam. Perhaps it will be helpful in de-mystifying these sections for the users.
You can perhaps also use it to set up a long distance study group, find people local to you with whom to study, and ask questions of people knowledgeable about the…[Read more] -

Employment Storytelling 15 years, 2 months agoGreat idea for a group, Jennifer. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about where I can find positive examples of design company policies/experiences and I’m eager to hear them, as well as creative, constructive discussion about ways to improve the bad ones.
I’d like to offer a positive story so I’ll have to reach beyond my design office experience,…[Read more] -

Employment Storytelling 15 years, 2 months agoso, since we’re sharing the good, the bad, and the ugly here’s my contribution.
Last summer we had a pretty significant weather event. EVERYTHING in the city government shut down, schools closed, highways closed, the mayor declared a weather emergency. On the news they kept telling people STAY OFF THE ROADS; it’s not safe. On the morning of the…[Read more] -

Colorado State University 15 years, 3 months agosorry about the delay, Cambridge is great although I still don’t have a job. I can’t completely blame that on the market though as I’m sure there is always more I could be doing.

L.A.R.E. – ANYTHING GOES 15 years, 4 months agoLet me just add to my last with a couple of tidbits. Don’t worry about taking all the tests at once. I have not noticed a lot of overlap – each section almost entirely pertains to its stated material. Frankly, I think folks that say “that test had nothing but section # material on it!” likely did not prepare long enough to know that they were be…[Read more]

L.A.R.E. – ANYTHING GOES 15 years, 4 months agoI’ve taken two of the three multiple choice exams and passed those two the first time using the following method. I wrote a blog entry somewhere on this site expanding on this method but here it is in a nutshell: It may seem strange at first but it works – apparently. You should know I have no LA degree so I had even that much more of a hand…[Read more]

L.A.R.E. – ANYTHING GOES 15 years, 4 months agoI might suggest that taking A&D at the same time might be a good approach as well. There was quite a bit of material that seemed to overlap on the 2 tests…might as well study it all at once!
I took all 3 at the same time. It is indeed doable if you follow Ray’s suggestions. I spent about 6 weeks studying intensively…an hour or two every…[Read more] -

L.A.R.E. – ANYTHING GOES 15 years, 4 months agoTaking all 3 multiple choice tests at the same time is doable, but a lot depends on the individual.
Are you over-worked? (Sadly those employed generally are, due to the “attrition” the profession has experienced)
Do you have kids, significant others, sick parents, do a lot of onerous volunteer work?
How focused are you at test preparation?
If…[Read more] -

L.A.R.E. – ANYTHING GOES 15 years, 4 months agoIf you look through these LARE blogs, there have been suggestions…And my office had some old stuff laying around. Also some people buy the PPI exams and then share the cost with others, or if you take the classes you can get info. There were LARE classes at the national convention that I took last year in Chicago, $50 each, and that gave me…[Read more]

L.A.R.E. – ANYTHING GOES 15 years, 4 months agoI just finished all the LARE exams, and since I am in California I also took and passed the CA exam. I took C and E together and A, B, D together. If you don’t mind studying and are detail oriented it is totally doable. My strategy was to take a lot of practice tests. As many as I could get my hands on. There is a certain way they test, a ki…[Read more]
