I have tried, but I don’t like it either. It took me three times visiting to figure out where the forum was. I think that is one one of the best parts of the site. It has really been minimized, to the site’s detriment IMHO.
November 21, 2011 at 3:49 pm #174349Pat S. RosendParticipantThe problem arises if you need to do a WL install and a meter. In my county a 3′ water meter is $80,000. Plus the cost of the line work itself.

October 12, 2011 at 12:49 am #159809Pat S. RosendParticipantI am going to disagree a bit with you here. Parks serve many roles. not all have recreation opportunities. Many parks serve other functions. I think it is the term park that brings a certain image to mind.
It is true that the public thinks of parks as places to go do something in, but our parks serve many other purposes.
October 11, 2011 at 7:34 pm #159818Pat S. RosendParticipantThanks for the link.
My feeling is that this is a park designed for passive recreation. IMHO the author of the piece is speaking to a different type of park use, a more active use. This park serves a different purpose. I don’t know if I would call it a fake environment. We try to teach where and when we can. What is hard to evaluate is how this fits in the City of Malibu. Does it meet a citizen need? Should this have been an active site vs. a passive site? Both types have something to offer the public. I am not sure why all the hate from this group about the park.
October 11, 2011 at 4:11 pm #159833Pat S. RosendParticipantWell, I am unable to get enough information from that article to determine the story behind the park. We have over 400 parks in my county, and most of them look like they don’t do anything. I find it more a failure of communication/education than anything else. Maybe the park is waiting for funding to be completed?
September 13, 2011 at 7:54 pm #160475Pat S. RosendParticipantRemember…
Playgrounds are for kids not adults. Kids really have different interests, likes and needs from adults in outdoor spaces. Not saying the other stuff isn’t interesting, it is, but just sayin’

That is going to barely cover your overhead and make a small profit. When I was in design build, we had a minimum 3x mulitple for costs to billing. 4x was optimum.
Single proprietors are able to make do with less, but they do not create many additional jobs that way do they…
A snazzy office doesn’t have to be expensive, but it presents a professional front to big dollar clients who expect more than a designer working out of the back of his car.
August 6, 2011 at 1:17 pm #161259Pat S. RosendParticipantThe profession should mandate a 10 year license limit. Everyone has to retake the exam after holding the RLA for 10 yrs.
Nooooo. No more testing. It is really not that hard to do this job folks. Even Dr’s don’t have to retake their boards.
July 29, 2011 at 3:15 pm #161292Pat S. RosendParticipantI think an MBA in Economics is a great idea. You will find it of value whether you are an LA or not. Many LA’s would benefit from business/economic knowledge.
I left the field for about 7 years. I eventually came back, because the field I went into, airline corporate and agency sales, went into a tailspin after 9-11 and I couldn’t get a job after the airline I was working for collapsed. I enjoyed the work, but it was pretty unfulfilling.
I was able to get back in the design fields b/c I had kept my license over the years. It was something my Dad taught me.

I don’t like it myself. Very pretentious and depressing.

April 29, 2011 at 4:50 pm #163493Pat S. RosendParticipantMy experience was the same. MicroStation for DOT projects. That included the landscape plans.
