Hi Trace.
Why should I put you in your place if some points are valid? I’m center left too, but am open to seeing the will and action to change. I posted it somewhere here, that the recession does something good to the region…unarrested development is…well…arrested. Now that’s there’s a crunch, clients are now looking for more quality to…[Read more]

Hi Steve.
That’s good to hear. Hopefully the abovementioned notion is just an unfortunate viral campaign. You just restored my faith on Andres Duany. I kinda fancy his approach and truly wonder why this has not caught on with UAE based planners. I believe it is just a matter of understanding the indigenous urban fabric and transposing this to the…[Read more]

Hi Nick.
Just an alternative insight. Can a person who prefers computer graphics be in on it just to sell the product, but not necessarily to ensure that the design of the product has been thought out? I mean, between designers, we almost unanimously agree that there’s a huge amount of thought involved in hand sketching. But there are persons who…[Read more]

Hello Trace One.
Interestingly, in my three or so years here in the UAE (where Dubai is), I haven’t seen any reference in planning documents to NU. More interestingly, might be lip service for now but a lot of local and federal laws (espcially in Abu Dhabi) are hell bent on going green. So much so that any consultant in the UAE groans whenever…[Read more]

Hello Andrew and Roland, and fellow Loungers.
Didn’t expect this topic to grow into an engaging discourse. But, yeah, press on!
My further comment is, thanks and great stuff for expounding and refining the discussion. Sense of place, regard to maintainability, user ownership, c/o Roland- that’s the added value I’m talking about (and probably…[Read more]

Rico Flor replied to the topic Are Landscape Architects Just Being Used As Graphic Designers/Visualisers in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 15 years, 3 months ago
Personal experience placed on the table here:
Yes, unfortunately the politics of power amongst professionals happened in my workplace (no time frame specified – but this is historical data for your rumination). Our training in site graphics are often used to ‘prettify’ architectural design proposals, to put that required site context. Often,…[Read more]

An international contribution to this chatter….PALA members are RLA’s. This is mandated by law in the Philippines (RA9053); RLA’s are automatically included in the PALA roster, the only accredited professional organization for LArchs in the Philippines. I also heard just recently that, by law, the architects’ scope of services has finally taken…[Read more]
