Graphics 16 years, 3 months agoHi Vanessa; glad you’re having success with the colored pencil techniques. You have a good eye! I do use a cream pencil combined with peach on almost all buildings and hardscape at the very beginning of coloring a drawing, then wash over them with whatever color will best depict the material I’m envisioning…terra cotta, slate blue. etc. The…[Read more]

Graphics 16 years, 3 months agoEric,
I couldn’t tell you how to do it using drop shadows, but I could offer some good advice on doing it manually in photoshop without creating numerous layer copies and keeping the file size down.
send me a message if you still need help with this and I’ll explain some simple tricks.

Graphics 16 years, 3 months agoJames Richards is great. I love his simple color palette. He blends darker colors in his lighter colors to make things look cohesive. For instance, he used carmine red and true blue (i think it was true blue) prismacolor color pencils over cream to create this really nice effect. So, the cream hardscape and buildings really popped after i tried to…[Read more]

Competition Consortium 16 years, 3 months agoI have a small office here in Seattle and we are doing what you suggest. We have gathered up un and under-employed folks and are looking for competitions to pursue. We submitted our first entry for a sculpture garden in Oregon last month and are looking for another. The ones you have mentioned sound interesting.

Design Technology 16 years, 3 months agoIs anybody using VUE? It is pretty good though most materials would have to be custom made. Good interface with Max and is import/export.

California Native Plants 16 years, 3 months agoTwo years after clearing the invasives in my part of the creekbed in my backyard – you know, plants like Arundo and Tamarisk (how did that get there?) and Washingtonia palms (we all know how that got there) – the birds were kind enough to plant 3 Quercus agrifolia and a Toyon that is now about 12′ high. None of these are requiring additional water…[Read more]

LA Downunder 16 years, 5 months agoSo I started this discussion a while ago – considering a move back to Australia from the US. Well, I finally arrived in Perth this week (my new home) and I think I’ve answered my own question – there are so many construction cranes towering over the city skyline it’s bloody amazing. And I just landed a senor position with Hassell here in Perth. So…[Read more]
