man I wish I was in school! sounds like fun – maybe an opportunity for a smell garden, a garden of senses like they do for hospitals – plants to smell and feel..?
How about a refuge…seems like drug rehab would need a place to be alone..not that i know anything about it!!!
non-competitive game spaces – mazes?

California Native Plants 16 years, 4 months agoTwo years after clearing the invasives in my part of the creekbed in my backyard – you know, plants like Arundo and Tamarisk (how did that get there?) and Washingtonia palms (we all know how that got there) – the birds were kind enough to plant 3 Quercus agrifolia and a Toyon that is now about 12′ high. None of these are requiring additional water…[Read more]

The problems of low pay and long hours are only going to get worse. Many new grads are willing to work for $13 or $15 an hour without benefits, and live with their parents. We will all be undercutting each other until the economy turns around, and even then it will likely be an employers market. A union seems like a solution, but their can…[Read more]

We have added a “Share” button to the site so you can add it to Facebook or Twitter it, etc., as well as an RSS feed so you can be alerted as new stories are added (which I do once a week)

There is no one or the other. They must be used in tandem or you are only an artist or a designer and not both. Combine them and you can then communicate feelings as well as function. For a really in depth look at the computer and how it should be used, read the book “Induction Theory” by Makoto Sei Watanabe. It is not to long or to expensive and…[Read more]

All that said, I think I’ve yet to meet someone that models as well as they design, or vice-versa. Pick your poison..

The reason autodesk makes Max and Maya is because they bought them. The same way they bought softimage, ecotect etc…..
It doesn’t seem to me to be so much of a compatibility strategy but just becoming the largest modelling conglomerate.
Anyways, my experience is that Max is an awful modeler. But I don’t really think that the Max/Rhino…[Read more]

Reston Virginia in full is a premier example of planning strategy success. Robert E. Simon, Jr. is the developer who bought the land and made the plan with his team. At 95-years young, he still resides here and is very active in the community, thriving with a population of over 55,000 He began by outlining “Seven Goals for the New Town”, which…[Read more]

Hi Andrew and all. I’m replying to Nick’s post about Reston Town Center. Yes, I am from Sasaki, and yes we did do the master plan, and subsequent implementation of the planning, urban design and landscape architecture efforts. Nick, not sure if you are refering to the book published in the last 2 or so years on Reston, editted by Alan Ward, or…[Read more]

Yes I passed Section C and D andI re-taking E this December. Just got back from the redline review of E and I feel confidant I will pass in December and soon afterwards take Florida Section. I will take your suggestion to heart and follow thru on them. The weather today is sunny and cool, just picture perfect.

I think ‘high quality public spaces’ pretty much sums up the entire profession of Landscape Architecture..so if you want to learn about it, I would recommend a Master’s degree from U of Penn, for starters..or Yale architecture school also has very good landscape architecture history program..
so if you have about three years, at least, I think we…[Read more] -

I lived in south Florida back in the ’90’s. I now live in New England. The book that I used was Florida Landscape Plants by John Watkins and Thomas Sheehan. Enjoy! I miss all those wonderful plants.

The only firms that are moving to Maya are ones that do complete Modeling and Rendering. Also, all of the components in 3ds Max are in Maya. There is a reason AutoDesk makes both programs and the switch to Maya for more advanced firms makes sense. That is my personal opinion about Rhino. I don’t feel an any way that Rhino is at all comparable to…[Read more]

Calling Rhino a mid level modeling program is crazy. It is a much more accurate/powerful tool than Max. It has t-splines…….
And while Max has the majority of users in the past progressive firms are moving to Maya because of the scripting and dynamics.
