This is very interesting. I am working on creating a plan for the old gates rubber factory site and I-25/Broadway park and ride for class and think I am going to work in one of these b-cycle things near the station. Sounds like there may be some problems with the system but hopefully with time the kinks can get worked out.

india / landscape 16 years, 5 months agoNanda – perhaps the best way to keep track of landscape architecture in India is through the Journal of Landscape Architecture – http://www.lajournal.in (disclosure – I am the advisory editor and write regularly for it). It is a very well produced and well-regarded (esp for it’s independence) magazine. At $50 for 4 issues international it’s a little…[Read more]

I took and passed section B, along with A and D, last March and I must say I had great luck with the Land Development Handbook by Dewberry. It turned out to be a wonderful source. Section B is a really difficult test to pass, and I think CLARB is getting more and more into stormwater management programming elements, so it also helped me to…[Read more]

I recently found out about a concept called bicycle boulavards: http://www.ibpi.usp.pdx.edu/guidebook.php
Essentially, it’s a shared street with an emphasis on bikes. Cars are allowed, but low speeds discourage drivers who aren’t residents of the neighborhoods. It sounds a lot like a woonerf to me. It may be the sort of thing they have in that…[Read more] -

Very cool examples, I have seen more use of underpasses for parking and storage of road maintenance vehicles and supplies, but with enough light and knowledge of its existence, and usable space could definitely be developed.

I think one are that the US would have to look at is mass transit becuase we have intentionally zoned our jobs away from our homes. Nobody wants to live next to an industrial plant, and not in my backyard politics have forced most of us to be long range commuters (long range in terms, I work 17 miles from my home and go through 5 cities to get to…[Read more]

Fort Collins, CO has been doing a bike sharing program for a while. They use a co-op system to get volunteers to bring in unwanted/non-functioning bicycles on weekends to an open garage and learn how to fix em up so others can use them. The co-op then paints them and slaps a serial number on them and borrows them out.
Its a good program that…[Read more]

Fort Collins has something similar, a Bike Library. You have to put a deposit down in case you don’t return the bike, but if you do it’s refunded and completely free. They don’t track any stats on your ride though. Never used it myself, since I own a bike, but it is nice to know it’s there for when I have out of town guests.

Very cool, this addresses a lot of the problems with bike sharing. I still have some questions, like has anyone actually used a B-Cycle?
