Leslie always has good practical advice. I’d second the notion that you should not let yourself get down on what you have not done and work with what you have done because that is 100% more than the person who has yet to do anything. Keep plugging away and don’t be afraid to look at getting experience in slightly different ways as you wait for the…[Read more]

I was hoping someone with more insight into hiring in larger firms would answer this, but I’ll try and just offer general wisdom. Just go with emphasis on your strengths. You don’t have to exaggerate them but don’t get discouraged by what you “haven’t” done already. Everybody starts somewhere, gathers what experience is possible, and keeps…[Read more]

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone knows where one can learn construction documentation outside of being employed in an office. I’ve searched online and found no courses in this subject specifically geared towards landscape architecture. I have bought several books including the Landscape Architecture Documentation Standards, but I prefer a class…[Read more]

Maybe I’m wading in here more on impression than deep study of it, but I think a seal is saying “I am qualified by education, preparation, experience, and (most likely) testing to do this plan” (for any sheet it is on- sometimes as required by reviewing jurisdiction). That also implies it is your property. But doing the work in the first place…[Read more]

Hi Edward. I’m increasingly convinced that University Degrees, including Landscape Architecture, don’t need to become trade schools. Yes, there is some aspects of professional craftsmanship and design knowledge involved in our education, but how deep into the technical weeds do we really need to get? Can’t a lot of these things be taught in…[Read more]

Katherine Jacobs started the topic Public Rain Garden Design in the forum PLANTS & HORTICULTURE 6 years, 3 months ago
I work for a city park department. One of our nonprofit partners is working on a rain garden in a public right of way, which is a great project. However, they treated the rain garden planting design like a restoration project– there are upwards of 65 species. I expressed my appreciation for biodiversity and explained that our maintenance staff is…[Read more]
