I have worked in brownfields, which involves the remediation of oil contaminated sites. In my experience, the liability aspects of site redevelopment lead the discussion. If this is a site that will not be redeveloped, you will have greater flexibility with experimenting or using experimental green technologies/methods to meet your management…[Read more]

Christa replied to the topic LEED ND+C vs AP Sites in the forum STORY BOARD 8 years, 10 months ago
I have LEED ND, and thought that process was much more difficult. When I took it I had to purchase a course that gave me experience in a LEED project. SITES just required the exam, which was not difficult if you have a history of working with or studying sustainability principles. I would say LEED ND is more allied to planning and community,…[Read more]

I just found a book review by ASLA of a text solely about phytoremediation:

in the 80’s I worked for a huge AE firm that designed many buildings with atrium spaces.
here’s a few tips I learned:
you must acclimate the tree going inside for much less foot candles of light. while the tree growing outside is getting maybe 50,000 foot candles of sunlight, the tree inside may only get 500 foot candles at best with artificial…[Read more] -

I was able to take and pass the first 2 lare sections based on my completion of an AA in landscape architecture in my state. For me it was the gateway to be accepted into an MLA program (because my previous gpa from my bachelor’s degree was too low), gain experience and qualify to take sections 3 and 4. I’m sitting for section 4 in 10 days, then…[Read more]

You’ve certainly clarified your position here. I’m happy to let your words speak for themselves.
Today’s liberal agenda: studying the CBC codes for pool enclosures, looking at the latest MAWA/ETWU studies from UC Davis, and doing some invoicing. Semester starts in a few weeks!
Best,

Bob,
Relax. Look at it this way if it helps. It is an alternative place for people to go outside of bounds of where you think the profession should be. That will keep those that have a different perspective from crowding the “real” classrooms.

Landscape architects work at a slow pace. While your projects and deadlines might argue, the design and construction process seems like molasses when compared to the speed of today’s world. Some would argue that […]

Reality is that it is such a diverse field that no one can even define what is and what is not Landscape Architecture. I don’t think that is a bad thing. An apples to oranges comparison is the “medical profession”. You have everything from beyond brain surgeons to CNA’s and Dental Hygienists. Each is important on their own, each has a different…[Read more]

Well, as I say, it’s different than a formal BA or MLA. What is the cost to go through the full program at UC Berkeley?
Most of our students are not high school students, they live and work in the Bay Area already. And many go on to work in well-regarded local design firms… so I guess it comes down to what your personal circumstances are. If you…[Read more] -

I teach at Merritt. With the demise of other part-time/night school programs in the Bay Area, Merritt offers a solid path for mid-career changers or people already working in the field who want to transition to a more professional environment. I think it is a different thing than a formal BA or MLA. The faculty and students at Merritt are very…[Read more]

It’s funny but true. What’s even funnier is your response or should I say non-response. Instead of standing-up for president ‘look-at-me’, you’re basically saying, “Sure, all that stuff about the Trump presidency is true, but ordinary citizens Hillary and Obama blah-blah…blah.”

That is Crassula ovata. My family grew it in filtered sunlight right next to the foundation of their house. Direct sun should be fine outdoors.
The depth of the hole should 36″ to be safe. The plant does get to 6′ tall with age. - Load More
