The text style command is:
‘_style
The default will be “standard”. on the right side you’ll see a button “new”. Click it and name your new text. You can see where you can choose the font and size.
Dimension style”
‘_dimstyle
When you modify it to suit your needs, you’ll have to consider if you are scaling your viewports – that can be adjusted i…[Read more] -

I’m not sure how you have your desk top set up. I have it showing the pull down menus rather than the big icons, but here is how to do it.
Use the “format” menu to find “text size”. Open that to select or make the text size that you want to be current in the drawing.
Then access the “dimension style” also under the format menu. Either select o…[Read more] -

I don’t know why people get so wound up about ASLA whether it be negative or positive. I don’t believe that it is widely known outside of the profession. It influences what we, as landscape architects, feel about the profession much more than it does those outside of it as best as I can tell.
It is like listening to a real estate program on t…[Read more] -

Yes – thats exactly what I would expect. You can’t expect creative solutions if you are delusional about the problem – look at Greece, North Korea, the former USSR, the American housing bubble – it doesn’t do anyone any good to lie.
The role of an effective leader is to identify obstacles and opportunities and help create an inspired roadmap towa…[Read more] -

Using AutoCad, photoshop mostly. Would like a field sketch / measurement program that sin’t limited to a sheet size equal to the surface of the pad/tablet, sketch overlay would be great where you can take photos, stitch panoramics and sketch over the top with a stylus of course…sketching on top of pdfs would be helpful for meetings…

Yeah…I understand kind of wondering about the LEED focus. I guess recently I have just realized that I am going to dislike a lot of what others say about any given thing. Being an election year, perhaps I give articles such as this a bit of a gloss over. I can’t be outraged over everything! haha.

I think what bothered some of us was the disconnect with the LEED remark specifically. I may be disconnected myself but knowing the builder/developer industry around here pretty well, I just can’t picture a scene with some of them having drinks at an area builder’s group and saying to each other (or themselves in private)…I’m going to do a LEED…[Read more]

I guess I didn’t see it as being too optimistic…I do see it as a sales pitch for what landscape architects can do. Honestly, what should he say? haha. Yeah…we have a lot of unemployed landscape architects? I will read it again to see if I pick up the vibe you feel, but just remember people like winners. People want to be part of something…[Read more]

Agreed. If you’re going to issue statements that can be quickly and easily refuted with a Google search, expect them to be questioned. It makes him sound like he’d full of shit. I can’t stand people who are full of shit. Its like the couple who always appears happy and high-functioning and then are found dead in an apparent murder sui…[Read more]

Michael:
Been following this discussion, but did not feel compelled to add anything until I saw your most recent post. Based on that, I would say: yes, go into LA. Why?
I am finishing year 2 of a BLA. The few paid internships in the Seattle area have gone to people who either had experience in the field prior to setting foot in the program, or…[Read more] -

Tanya,
A lot of this depends on what you are going to use it for and even to a certain extent what software you are currently using for design.
Vectorworks recently launched Cloud Services with a fully integrated system for accessing your drawings from the cloud and editing or annotating in the field with an iOS device through Nomad. Check out…[Read more] -

I think this will be a good thing. I wasn’t terribly excited when Google bought @Last, and that move, though not perfect, brought a lot of good things to SketchUp. Trimble has much stronger ties to the AE and design industry so I’m hopeful that there will be better integrated tools for terrain modeling and BIM. I am most excited that the SketchUp…[Read more]

There is also great satisfaction that comes from seeing an idea in my head, putting it on paper, watching it get built, and then seeing people experience and enjoy the place that I helped create. That is why I’m a landscape architect.
Been following this discussion, and those few lines hit home. Thats the reason why I want to become a LA. -

I’m surprised AutoDesk didn’t snatch it up and shutter it or add in a bunch of useless new features that take vast more processing power and raise the price a few thousand dollars.
I’m not familiar with Trimble that much, but they primarily seem to a hardware company specializing in GPS. Hardware companies and mass software companies rarely g…[Read more] -

Environmental design is kind of a generic term, and from what I gather it has a lot of variation in what you actually learn depending on the program – even moreso than architucture or landscape architecture programs. At the college I attended it’s aimed much more at the architectural aspect of things and shares courses with that major – not L…[Read more]

Oh, I see where they are coming from. I had no extensive design tranining in my Urban Planning course, and thats what I would like to learn. I do not want to go into the engineering feild, so Im guessing that leaves me with Landscape Arch or Arch right?
