The google project I was looking at was the ‘googleplex headquaters’ in California, which was built on a brownfield site. It was mainly the principle of having landscape integrated PV rather than just building integrated PV which we could apply different urban situations.
It was interesting to hear about the impact of the Mojave Desert project tho…[Read more] -

Hi all,
It’s great to see the discussion on the changes to the L.A.R.E. I wanted to clarify a couple of things and answer any questions that you may have.- The exam will consist of 4 sections, all of which will be administered at computer test centers and will make the exam more accessible for candidates.

Andrew Garulay, RLA replied to the topic standards for pathways? in the forum DETAILS & MATERIALS 14 years, 10 months ago
I don’t know of any standards, but you can create contect to make just about any curve seem to be correct. People make their own paths as an alternative to the one provided when the alternative makes more sense than what is provided. You either have to provide a logical path from the get go, or build the logic into the design once you’ve laid out…[Read more]

Do you know about paths folk make on their own across land? Too much meander they make more to achieve a beeline. You may have to make departing from the path impossible with other features (and see below).
Do you know police categorise roads and paths for reports cos they are made a certain width to allow for traffic? In the event of a cr…[Read more] -

Not 100% relevant, but have you seen the Dirr iphone app? I really like it; it is so much easier to carry around than the paper volume.

I think I remember reading somewhere that solar panels on green roofs are more efficient for some reason. I think it had to do with temperature.

it is always a good idea to go to a large broker and ask them to get you a quote from the market to suit your own circumstances. You may fancy asking insurers direct then find you actually dont save money even paying a brokers commission. The answer is awlays a lemon though, u got to suck it to see how sweet it is. Another thing is that the br…[Read more]

UK Landscape Architecture 14 years, 10 months agoLandscape architects always get confused for “landscapers” and until the general public understand the profession of landscape architecture, this will never change.

James,
This has been discussed in various forms before on land8. It is difficult to give/get accurate information on this site because insurance regulation is a state affair, and what may be true in Ohio won’t be in California. I suggest talking with other local professionals or talking with a local independent insurance agency which may gi…[Read more] -

This is a good thing to compress the tests down a little. Also it may not hurt to take a and b now if you are going to take any of the tests since they will give you full credit for those two exams after the transition. If also looks like a good idea to make sure that C, D, & E are all passed, if they have been started. I can see the most…[Read more]

That is an odd question. The exams will be at pro-metric where the three current computer tests are administered. They were all PC’s of some kind. I am guessing that the vignettes will look something like the problems that the architects are currently working with.

So far they power our solar landscape lighting and that is about it. In the long term I could see roofs of buildings and landscape structures being made up of solar panels, but more practically we are already installing solar water heating. This is mostly on the roofs of the residence or businesses. I could see some creative structures built for…[Read more]

While a certain level of personality has gone into gaining work at places I’ve been, more often than not, it’s the design that sells a project, and the graphics that sell the design. This has been true for both public and private contracts that I’ve worked on, though mostly for first time clients in the private realm. once a relationship is…[Read more]

BTW-any technique is the right technique if it gets the point across and is profitable.
I couldn’t agree more with this statement.
Even though I tend to use 3ds Max for my 3D work, and I like the physical cameras for rendering (to provide realistic viewing angles, horizontal compression, and focus), I tend to render to elements (each c…[Read more] -
