we did solve the energy crisis – it’s just that industry and corporate america and their political purveyors will not let it happen..Technololgy is not the issue with reducing impact on our warming earth – it is political will..

in 1974, the first year cars had smog pumps and such, I bought a new car that got 41 mpg.
today, they make a hybrid that gets 41 mpg and they think they’ve solved the worlds’ energy crisis!
no progress at all in 37 years…… -

I disagree. I have had my PC for 5 years too and it is still more than capable spec wise, I currently have no need to upgrade or replace anything. Building a PC with a long shelf life is all about the components you put in the thing, which if your a PC user, you can tailor to your needs not accept the pre-packaged MAC trend of the moment a…[Read more]

Anyone doing the latter is probably cynical like me.
Democrats: Hope we’ll do the right thing.Republicans: Pray we’ll do the right thing.Thinkers: Know that neither will.
Unrelated thought for this morning: Espresso is one of man’s great discoveries, it is joined with fire, the wheel, bread and vacuum tubes for guitar amps. -

The hopers make fun of the prayers and the prayers make fun of the hopers. They are in fact the same thing.
They are what you do in order to solidly believe in an outcome without thinking.
You can hope. You can pray. … or you can think. Who is doing the latter?

Internships are great on the one hand, but there is a lot of baggage that comes with it.
The biggest problem many are having right now is not being able to get an internship after graduating. Can you imagine how hard it would be to get an internship after graduating if there were students taking them? Or, can you imagine not being able to…[Read more] -

Andrew, I would love to see all accredited LA programs include a required internship or co-op. As part of my first degree (Associates in Landscape Contracting and Construction), an internship was (and still is) required and this really sets a student up for success. Having progressed to the BSLA degree which I achieved afterward, the owner felt…[Read more]

Yeah, South Jersey craigslist. Of course, sometimes ads get misplaced. And craigslist ads are of dubious value in my experience anyway. So many scam jobs and postings where they’re just fishing to see who’s out there. To broke to afford a real ad yet somehow you’ll be able to pay me a salary?! Yet recently I noticed that the hig…[Read more]

Are you sure that ad was in NJ?
You need to remind them that you not only have education and experience, but you can’t be an engineer and open a competing shop like the civils they may interview could. -

Small civil engineering firms, at least in my region, do more site planning than anything else.
That’s how it was in NJ as well. I used to get so irritated with those dull site plans that civils would produce. I’d passive-aggressively make suggestions as to how they could be better. But if more LA’s wormed their way into this site-planning pr…[Read more] -

What “few things” has Obama done right, Roland? Lets see the so-called changes we can believe in: Extended the Bush tax cuts for the ultra rich, Gitmo is alive and well, the mid-east wars continue, Wall Street never got any reform, and he behaved like Bush by getting into the Libya mix. Now we are on the verge of spending millions of $$ on the war…[Read more]

as if thats a question. dump the idea of a pc. They are bulking, disfunctional, non helvetica capable, and just plain un aesthetic. now that you can have auto cad on a mac, there is no reason to own a pc. all design programs work best on a mac. yes they cost more, but by the time you purchase 2 crappy pcs you can own 1 superior mac. i have…[Read more]

The new version of Autocad for Macs cost as much as the PC edition.
I would buy a Mac. You buy more upfront, but you save in long run. There’s constant Windows upgrades and anti-virus installs, etc. And Macs last longer, just look it up at Consumer Reports. Even PC Magazine had an average Macs ranked number 2. Their highest ranked computer was…[Read more] -

It’s rather hard to see ANY private vehicle — no matter the fuel — as “green” UNLESS it’s a color

No, its a branding. It has been perverted to the point where i have seen SUV’s who get 2 mpg more than their predecessors being advertised as the green option… right. so now that boat gets 22mpg highway, I should feel good about myself for making such a huge difference.
