Seems like this product by Permloc might be an option:http://www.permaloc.com/products/onyx.html
Also, their aluminum edging has a beaded top that makes them significantly less sharp than steel edging. -

I like the Natural/cultivated edge also. It would not work very well between sand and soil or in an active recreation area.

Your photos look like standard plastic edging and not the bend-a-board? Also why do people feel the need to put edging up against hardscapes like sidewalks, driveways, etc?

Hi Jake. Congratulations on your career path. I graduated from Cal Poly Pomona in 1997 with a BS in Landscape Architecture. I hold both the graduate and undergraduate programs in high regard. I was really impressed with the campus improvements and design studios at CPP . I think your best bet is to talk to the current students at both univ…[Read more]

Hey Jake,
Nice chatting with you at CPP. How did the visit at USC go? Did you get any resolve in your decision? Good luck with everything, you definitely have some great ideas that could be explored in depth at either school. -

I ordered a book, the one they were using for the course at the local tech school, and I am going to try to do some of the bookwork on my own. I work around a lot of engineers who can answer questions if I get stuck.
Wish me luck, and thanks for all your advice!! If anyone thinks of other good tips keep ’em coming, I will check back. -

I actually looked into a class at the local tech school, and decided it was too expensive but that is exactly how the instructor said he teaches it. I think I will start that way too.

Hmmm…I already have a job, so if I am doing design work for the other 70 hours a week that I’m not at work, that still leaves me about 58 hours a week to sleep, divide that by 7 and that’s more than 8 a night…
That just might work! -

playground precast rubber edging/curbing might work. It wouldn’t be a super clean look, but a kid wont bust his noggin on it.
see: Softline Flexi Edge for example
best of luck! -

Mark,
I have not seen “resume posting” for this type of job. Everyone around here posts job listings and the candidates reply. -

In Hawaii, especially on Maui, about 50% of the construction work uses “Bend-A-Board” and your contractor doesn’t have any idea what they’re talking about…maybe time to consult with another. It’s called bend-a-board for a reason! Enclosed are a couple of photos taken around my condo. The LA firms submit their permit plans for review and…[Read more]

Go with a cultivated edge, 4″ deep. Your material cost is reduced and you eliminate the hazard of sharp edges. A cultivated edge can be just as easy to maintain if not easier then a “structural” type edging system, plus you don’t have some ugly plastic edging defining your spaces/beds.

I don’t see anything in your post that disagrees with me. You are making my point. It is not the degree or letters after your name that gets you the rate.It is your ability to sell your worth.
You, me, or Christi can’t decide our worth. All we can do is hold out for an amount and find if others agree with our assessment of our worth. I agree that…[Read more] -

I’m often frustrated by the dialog around infrastructure here’s a small example:

To tax or not to tax?…that is the wrong question. No where in the above article does it mention the real problems with the gas tax. The problem is the gas tax is a consumption tax…[Read more] -

Just get a job with major projects and tight deadlines. After a few months of 70 hr weeks you should have a solid, if rudimentary, understanding of AutoCAD…
I guess what I’m trying to say is that the best way to learn is to do. -

Hey Claudia,
I taught AutoCAD for several years and I know that it is very “big” software that can put engineers, architects and landscape architects on the same page in a design team. I thought I was a wiz until I started teaching it. Unfortunately, even the latest versions of AutoDesk AutoCAD require considerable trial and error. Having a go…[Read more] - Load More
