Try being LAID OFF for YEARS as so many LAs are right now!!!!!!!
I feel NO sympathy for the Peoples Republic of California. There isn’t any more money to bleed from the taxpayer stone, and businesses have fled by the thousands. The people made their own mess, now they have to wallow in it.

“As you can see from what is happening in California, with our new governor Jerry Brown, the taxpayer is represented through the electoral process, in negotiation with unions.”
That is what happened in Wisconsin, but it went the other way. Sometimes it swings left and sometimes it swings right….. and the farther a pendulum swings from the c…[Read more] -

Good topic.
While I don’t know where the percentages originated, it seems that at some time a standard project was historically averaged, percentages were then derived off of it for A&E soft costs, and the market accepted those costs.
Where I’ve seen percentages used most effectively is in a public bidding process, as per your example. If yo…[Read more] -

Thanks Barry,
I appreciate your comments. See my response to Thomas. I agree with your observations. I’d like to know who originated the 10% rule? How did they get there? What was their basis? Who reduced it? When? and why (if they did)? Why do builders, owners, architects, governments, school districts etc. use percentages in this way…[Read more] -

Hey Fred,
My experience has been 8-10% of the construction budget is typical for soft-costs (Design). But that is for all disciplines combined, of which Architecture and Civil seem to warrant the most labor/time. I have found that Landscape Architecture fees on municipal projects (except when LA’s are the Prime Consultant) are still relatively l…[Read more] -

I didn’t think you could answer the question…I don’t know who Ann Colter is and you don’t know me. I am not for your info a republican nor am I affiliated with any other political organization…..Please, someone else with a name, tell me who represents the taxpayer? And please answer without the piss and vinegar.
Why are you such an angry little girl? -

i think its a fabulous idea, i’d be very interested. if its about the use of different softwares for visualization, it would be exemplary to those who have problems in choosing the best to use in the profession.

Are we talking about a standard model that people download and render or submission of any work?

Michael –
I’d be very interested, and think it’s a great way to expose people to the diversity of styles and ways to use your/other 3D software. Have you posted this with ASAI or NYSR yet? -

Thanks Brent, that is the most informative response I have come across yet. I am going on Monday to check out both studios and hopefully be able to talk to some students and professors. Anyone else have any helpful thoughts or information?

Hi Jake,
Congrats – both are great options. I have not attended either school, but now practice here in LA. I can verify that Cal Poly Pomona is very well-regarded in Los Angeles (and beyond) and has a huge alumni network and connections in the area for potential jobs. It is, however, still facing a lot of economic challenges due to the st…[Read more] -

SLO and UCLA unfortunately only have a BLA programs. I was also under the impression that USC was not accredited?
I’m in a similar position, trying to stay in the LA area. I’ll probably be going to Cal Poly Pomona next year. The school was ranked fairly highly by design intelligence. Although Pomona seems a little shady, the program impressed me. -
