I don’t think CAD makes for a good rendering product to begin with. I use Cad to import my land surveys(Carlson SurvCE, and Carlson Survey desktop 2010, and produce my Construction Drawings and Deliverables with BricsCAD and LandFX (LandFX is much easier to set tree shadows anyway. I use SketchUP Pro for all my 3d Modeling and perspective w…[Read more]

I agree absolutly! Andrew. I think I would rather learn sketchup now (if I was starting over) rather than Autocad! I have to hold my nose when talking about Autodesk products in general. Not intiuitive, Expensive! And over rated!

What is entry level pay in Landscape Architecture these days? Someone said $40k. I would think that is on the high side right now for someone directly out of school, but I really don’t know.

I wonder how many pennies he’s talking about…? If it’s like 8 million pennies then it might be worth it…

Page 16 – Conceptual visual styles should address what you’re looking for, contrary to Bryan’s self assured, obnoxious and incorrect response.
Though, you won’t need to apply the “sketchy” (no, I’m not referring to you Bryan) visual style to the individual symbols. You’ll apply the…[Read more] -

as far as you know… Autodesk Impressions should work if you can save the civil3d file in dxf or dwg format. And you should be able to call the dxf or dwg up in Impressions and save it to a new file name leaving your precision drawing untouched. Remember Impressions is designed to be used as a presentation tool.

I think you’d have to define reasonable. For people that graduate with no debt a salary of 40k might be “reasonable”.
I’m hearing from most friends that compensation is stagnant. I applied to a very well known firm in the east coast, having a friend/former classmate who works there try and get me in the door. His response was that Upenn and GSD…[Read more] -

I have heard that for Australia, not sure about New Zeland (I didn’t know they built anything there…hehe). From what I understand the Aussies managed to whether the recession because of their huge mining economy out in the western desert, and any interruption they did experience they have pretty much recovered from.
It would be a mistake to n…[Read more] -

It is the first quarter of positive growth. With this index, a score of 50 is neutral, no growth, no loss. So, there is .2 points growth. Great. Losses had been slowing over the past months, but then it picked up again. Hopefully, this is the start of higher billings, but given the track record of this index, it is likely just a blip and losses wi…[Read more]

Is it safe to say that it is hard to get a job in this profession, but if you do, you will be compensated at a reasonable rate? I think this is true, but I see a lot of posts over the last couple of years since I’ve been on this message board that are saying otherwise. I just don’t know what the actual truth is and I really hope that people…[Read more]
