You probably won’t find a site like that for free…Creating that kind of data base and search engine is an expensive endeavor. There is a program called Horticopia that enables you to search based on form, color, seasonal bloom, soil, water, etc, etc. It’s a great program for finding plants appropriate for your region but even Horticopia doesn’t…[Read more]

Thank you for the reply! It`s true, so it’s only “garden design/marketing”?
For me the vertical’s gardens are very nice.
I would like to put on my projects, but the sustainable…..it’s my problem!! -
Rob Halpern replied to the topic International Plant Database? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 15 years, 6 months ago
Perhaps you need to search in Arabic or French or Spanish

I suppose it depends on what type of vertical garden you look at but, in general, I think it can be said that vertical gardens are energy- (irrigation and “lifts” for maintaining), water- (irrigation), and perhaps even labor- hogs. They invariably require exotic plants (not always) placed in inaccessible locations. In Patrick Blanc’s approach (as…[Read more]

Thanks! Unfortunately the Morocco section says it has no plants right now. Looks like a hugely informational site. Just wondering if there are any sites out there where you can search by location or climate zone rather than species name.

Takkie,
Hmm. Well yes and no. If you are referring to the UCLA A, B, D classes, I think the basic philosophy is somewhat different. UCLA breaks there classes up into one day sessions per section. Ours are lumped together into a 3 day weekend. We spend a lot more time on D because the amount of material is huge.
I send you a brochure by mid-December.

My email is NTF77@hotmail.com People told me about UCLA extension all the time. Is your class similra to UCLA one? -

I’m surprised no one has mentioned taking Master Gardener classes (for plants, not design, in my opinion). I don’t know if they offer classes online, but usually there is a local instructor….

The trees look pretty flat, especially the bark. Vray is the standard and Peter Guthrie has some pretty good examples via Onyx tree. http://www.peterguthrie.net/blog/2009/05/3d-trees/ The wheel well and wheel on the car need smoothing and the light cover is to transparent, almost nonexistent. Looking at the Thea page it says the engine has…[Read more]

there’s actually some landscape stuff on iTunes U. I haven’t really delved into it, but it might be an easy place to start. i second the Piet Oudolf books and magazine subscriptions. visit local gardens and make some sketches or take some photos, or both. study the designs that work. if you’re in california, check out books by bob perry. his…[Read more]

Hi Scott,
I’ve noticed postings for these jobs for a while now. Are you having trouble finding qualified candidates? I would think you’d be getting a lot of responses. -

The car is rad. It looks like a Mercedes-Maserati-Cadi-Charger hybrid… Classy muscle.
I agree with Amy’s observation about the trees. If I came across them on a site, I’d want to trim up those odd branches.
The people are too white… My eyes get stuck on them. Is there anyway to add a bit of color to them to mellow them out without…[Read more]

Actually the one thing I would say about the trees is that they could actually be a little bit more regular in form, especially the ginkgo and redbud. Obviously getting some irregularity to the form is necessary to achieve more realism, but the twigs sticking furthest out (mostly on the ginkgo) look a little too sparse and maybe a little…[Read more]

I used to be into the dark sky initiative, or whatever they call it. Then I came to the conclusion that cities are all about lights. Yes, it makes sense to conserve energy but I also wouldn’t propose dimming time square. On the same token, I’d be willing to wager that interior lights in sky-scrappers emit more combined light or that the light they…[Read more]

Right on Theodore!..Yes I was trying to start February 2011 for the spring semester but was told non-EU students can only begin in September. maybe not the case for you though if its only one exchange semester. After a lot of research & some instinct, I will be attending the university next year. I had pre-approved my application this past summer.…[Read more]

you can easily build the bioluminescence into a lichen that is spread on the slabs as of course noone will want to walk the streets and you need to repress the growth of grasses and weeds. As for light pollution, I feel sure I once read in a paper (so it must be true) the growing electric light pollution of our cities is what attracted the UFO…[Read more]

Here in the Uk you could ring the local agricultural college or even the Royal Horticultural Society and ask their advice. I assume you have something similar. A lot of the courses have students making a garden area but it always seems to me it starts with a list of about 200 plants’ latin names you learn by heart and this stands you in good stead…[Read more]
