Your candor is appreciated. Thanks for the laugh! I’ve had similar experiences. Sometimes I feel like my upbringing and persoanl ethics have made me too nice. I wish I was more comptetitive by nature. Still, I don’t think I could throw anyone under the bus and sleep well at night.

How familiar are you with InDesign? Once you learn most of the tricks, you will find that you can use Photoshop seamlessly with InDesign. For instance if you need to tweak a photo just make the adjustments in PS and then update the link in InDesign.
In terms of resolution that can be changed on the fly quickly in the export PDF settings. So leave…[Read more]

My biggest concern in writing, from a professional standpoint is not to piss people off either intentionally, or unintentionally. Clarity is the next biggest concern.
My “professional” writing is pretty well limited to emails and proposals. Both of these often involve a lot of description of “how” or “why”. I’m not concerned with being poetic or…[Read more]

If the objective of writing is popularity, then nothing will be gained by your pleasant prose. Readers will walk away feeling quite good about themselves and the world, no better off than before they read your piece. It is often those who are unsettled by writing that have the most to gain from it but they choose not to internalize it, process it,…[Read more]

You’ll love it. Won’t make it over to Alsace Lorraine this trip but will definitely plan to return. Most everyone I’ve met is so gracious, and the extent of the art and architecture is mind-boggling, let alone the history. See you in Sept at the next board mtg.

In my limited experience, a great portfolio and ability and willingness to learn will get you a job anywhere.
Johnson–
Good points, lol.

“I have had to realize a concerted effort to abridge my implementation of vocabulary in order to facilitate comprehension amongst colleagues. Sounds like a great trip, Suzan! Never been there but Germany is high on my list, particularly my ancestral Alsace-Lorraine. Love to see pics some time!

“I’d rather have someone that’s a little broody, but produces, than a guy that doesn’t produce, but keeps me in stitches.”
Haha LOVE THIS, Craig! From someone who loves a good laugh to keep things around the office light but can also be “broody” and frustrated (but still professional) when things are, you know, frustrating as they’re bound to be…[Read more]

Having finished my interviews after college a few months ago, I would say looks, personality, presentation of yourself certainly matters alot. I spend more time with everyone at work then I do anyone else on the planet. You need to be able to be around them all the time. Besides that connections are key aswell. Portfolio, resume, internships are…[Read more]

If they are paying you, then they are always right. It is their project, not yours. They are bringing you on board and they can just as easily kick you off the ship.
That being said, I don’t think there is anything wrong with bringing something to their attention that they may have over looked or not considered. I just wouldn’t argue your case…[Read more]

In my limited experience, kissing ass trumps all.
When that fails, throw your competition under the bus. Make them look like the bad guy when in fact it is you who comes to work late, leaves early, spends most of the day having irrelevant conversations, “isn’t into technology”, can’t manage a project to save their life, has to have every project…[Read more]

With regard to the hiring end of this subject, how much can a potential employer really learn about a candidates personality in a 2 or 3 hour interview?
First impressions are important, but they can be easily misconstrued too. In the firms I’ve worked in, I’ve seen many surprises. Sometimes it’s the more introverted/reserved personalities who…[Read more]

Still workingfull time, but there has definitely been a drop off in new work in the last month or two .
I’ve talked to several landscape contractors who are seeing very little ahead of them … more than one saying that all the work started before the crash is now drying up.
There is zero indication of anything picking up. I’m in an engineer’s…[Read more]

But the same can be said about highways. They don’t recoup their costs and ‘bleed money’ as well. Why the double standard? If people had to start paying the true cost of highways, they might be much less extensive as well (tolling, raise gas taxes). I have my doubts that the roads would be paved with gold. TxDOT recently did a study that showed…[Read more]
