Great question.  The contractors that I have worked with prefer working with the steel edging.  It holds a nice, rigid line while remaining hidden. <a href="http://everedge.com/" rel="nofollow">EverEdge</a>, <a href="http://www.colmet.com/" rel="nofollow">Col-Met</a>, or <a href="http://www.surelocedging.com/" rel="nofollow">Sure-Loc</a> would do the trick.<br />

Great question!  Here is the pdf version of <a href="/wp-content/uploads/ning-data/discussions/1-1000/320-AIALayerStandards.pdf" rel="nofollow">AIA CAD Layer Guidelines</a>.  I typically use a modified version of the layer naming convention, but always prefix layer names with L- to designate landscape layers.  For example, L-WALL, L-PAV, etc. </p>

Though, I typically still use symbols for large shrubs and trees,  hatches are a &#8220;clean&#8221; way to represent plant massing.  Regarding the detail, is this similar to the one you use?  <br />

Great question!  Assuming you are using AutoCAD?  I primarily used the array command to layout plant material.  Another tool to consider is the measure command (me) which allows you to set blocks along any line.  Check out the tutorial below (measure command starts around 4:30):</p>

It could easily be mistaken for a juvenile Phormium &#8216;Bronze&#8217; or &#8216;Atropurpureum&#8217;, but the flower is the give away that it is Cordyline.  Check out the comparison:<br />
