    9. Employers upon reduction of staff by way of lay-off, must provide a decending pay severence package. 1st quarter 75% of salary, 2nd quarter 60%, 3rd quarter 55%, and 4th quarter 40%. For the 4 quarters following the seperation for the employer until the employee finds acceptable employment. After 4 quaters full unemployemnt benefits will begin for lingering unemployment.

Check out the US Capital Visitors Center attached the the Capital Bldg designed by RTKL Associates. New Urbanism examples would be Reston Town Center and Pentagon Row. You may also try to google new urbanism/DC to see what comes up.

While I am not registered and working on the LARE, I find CLARB to be a great help now and in the forseeable future. I have in the past let my CLARB record lapse. When reinstated it was to the tune of $500 + the yearly fee. Since I an currently unemployed I do find it difficult to keep up on the cost associated with membership. For now as I am testing it is necessary and I do save a little on the associated cost. Once registered (I forsee this happening in my current state of Texas) I see the value in having a CLARB record as I have no idea what state I may end up in and have heard from piers it is a great help in get the liscence established in that state. So while it is expensive and annoying esp. if you are one of the many unemployed out there, the cost of not having CLARB on your side could be greater in the end. Good luck.

Starting at the end of February 09 my ex-company here in Dallas started to dismantel their Urban Design group company wide. This included jobs in LA, DC, Chicago, Madrid, London, and Shanghi. Oh, they kept the planning groups in tact. Being one of the first two to have our positions eliminated I watched as the rest of my former team were slowly eliminated through the end of August 09. Once everyone was gone the company brought me back to do an extremely limited part time contract for any outstaning design obligations we were committed to. This has equated to roughly 2-6 hours a week, sometimes no hours in a week. I take what I can get.

I have heard in the company circle about several projects coming back to life in foreign markets. Poeple in Dallas I’ve talked to remain upbeat. There’s alot of talk about increase in activity but there certainly aren’t any job postings as a result. As I quickly approach my 1 year anniversary of being released from my company I found it very ironic that we are in one of the ten best professions set for significant growth between now and 2018.
