Most of these responses were from 2009! I wonder if these people are still employed by the same firm.

They must’ve lied to you, Bob.”Writing” memos and editing “details” are not your strong suit.

Remember when you were a kid and Mom and Dad told you stories about Santa Claus? This is equivalent but on an adult level. Nothing but a pipe dream! Story is probably straight out of Rick Perry’s presidential campaign. Look at history of the world. Each country had its chance to be in power one time or another. From China to Spain to England and France to Greece, etc etc. America’s top spot days are over. Canada or Brazil are the next world power.

What happened to Land8 redesign? The “forum” portion is what most returning people come in here for and that has been reduced in viewable size and space. The gallery section never change images and therefore becomes less interesting over time. There’s no more individual design of your page anymore! How boring that everyone’s personal page is identical. How about if Landscape architect’s design spaces the same and use the same trees and shrubs throughout a project? Not a fan of the new graphic format.

Puhlease! Not enough time. By the time you leave the airport and get to your destination, you have 5 minutes before you need to be on your way back to the airport. Public transportation is way too slow. When you start the security checks, you will have no luggage since it’s a connection flight, which means security pulls you aside thinking you’re a terrorist. Many hours of brutal interrogation in a dungeon basement follows and by the time they let you go, your missed flight already landed at your destination. Someone steals your lone bags circling the luggage carousal by itself, then sells everything on Ebay.

Don’t be cheap. Visit London the real way.

Short answer: NO! However, it depends on your bachelor’s degree. If it was landscape architecture, then why in the world are you doing MLA? Maybe you’ve smoked one too many weed back in college. Graduate school is okay as long as its another discipline. My upcoming M in Accounting will open up possibilities in various fields, including construction and architecture. But no way jose. I’m staying away as far as I can from the anemic A & E industry. Bye-bye!

I think, women need to stay at home! Leave the ‘bringing home the bread’ to the men. Women should go back to cleaning, raising the kids, cooking and taking care of the home. Women’s lib ruined everything! Women want this or that. There’s no place for ladies in the workplace. This is a man’s world.

Sounds more like an Infomercial from SWA Group. SWA is another traitor with exportation of jobs and helping build China. What about the home country, USA? Just trying to bring up another point and being the devil’s advocate.

RA, I like the way you attack me, but leave Andrew and Henry’s responses alone. I’m sure your lone motive was to get me to respond. I’m simply stating the obvious here and some of you just don’t have the guts to say it. Some of you guys simply lack a backbone and can’t accept constructive criticism and harsh realities. The dude LOVES to work outdoors and nobody is telling him that landscape architects work mostly indoors, especially entry level types. Grow a pair.

And I didn’t give any percentages of water vs grass. I said “water covers most of this planet.” Which is true, ehh, sport?

Nope not ranting, but giving some difficult advice and truth. Failed LA? Lol. Okay sport, whateva you say! You know everything about me and how I put myself through Grad school working at 3 different part time jobs the last 2 years. Eyes are on the prize in May 2012! Never qualified for unemployment benefits because of my returning to school, so no government handouts like the rest of you liberals.

Ps. the “part-time” job turned into a full-time position…but for only 3 more months. Then, I’ll be permanently off landscape architecture and graphic design.

Sir William, you sound as if you’re smoking a few magic herbs right now! Pretty simple to figure out water covers most of this planet. Listen up, sport. In general, Landscape Architects don’t desire to be called Landscapers. It’s the image most of them try to distance themselves from. LAs have enough of a difficult time convincing the public that they do more than yard design. No offense but the words landscape architect & lawn mowers don’t belong in the same paragraph.

Judging by your rantings, you enjoy working outdoors more than kicking it behind a computer in an office cubicle. Nothing wrong by buying yourself a truck and starting a business as a landscape contractor and maintenance shop. I’m not certain you could finish a university program, work as someone’s designer in an office, pass the LARE and earn the title of Landscape Architect. The world does need you and as a landscape contractor by the name of Sir William. Good luck, Bill. I hope you don’t plan to plant any Cannabis sativa in any of your client’s landscape.

Well, I’m not the one who turned down a job offer because I thought the office space was filthy or complain about RLAs for not giving an opportunity to the entry level grads to work under their wings as an intern. I think you are the one missing the point, mister. Did you read the other responses. No? Generation Y wants to constantly talk on their cellphone, play video games and don’t have any idea what is hard work. It’s always someone else fault, never taking any personal responsibility.

    Come on man, wake up!

The size of your office isn’t as important as the size of your paycheck.

I cannot believe what I’m reading from some of you. A bunch of pansies! No wonder American corporations are exporting U.S. jobs overseas due to all your office demands. For me, just give me a desk, adequate space, nice computer and projects to work on. You know, projects that pay my salary. Some of you sound as if you also need starbucks coffee every morning, spa treatments every month, fresh plants and flowers on your desk once a week, manicure and pedicure every month, free daycare, paid to use public transportation, free lunch and snacks, 22″ or larger computer monitor, nice office wall color, mandatory power naps every afternoon…etc., etc. I suggest many of you read the book “The greatest generation” by Tom Brokaw. The workers who build America in the early century did tough labor and didn’t constantly complain as I read now. I can’t even imagine today’s workers trying to build the network of roads and bridges that the older generation completed for us. Today’s population wants everything easy and handed down to them without requiring much personal effort.

Comparison of two distinctly different LA firms. A firm I worked for in Seattle had the fancy office and furniture. The smaller office in Las Vegas I worked for had simple, but practical furnitures without all the bling. Guess which office actually paid me more? The LV firm. Substantially paid more!  And experience had very little to do with it. Unfortunately, the housing crisis hit and found myself laid-off in Spring of 2009. I then decided to return to school and supported myself by working at various part-time jobs as a graphic designer and cocktail server at two different casinos. But rather than complain and blame others or hope the next firm I worked for had nice furniture, I made a personal decision to leave the profession to pursue another career. The journey ends next May when I receive my Master’s in Accounting from UNLV.

No need for additional antivirus, Frank. None. The new Mac OS Lion has all the protection you need out of the box. PC users simply do not know about the current Apple computers and it can run Windows softwares. Therefore, no need for version of Autocad for Macs, because Autocad for Windows runs just as effectively. You can toggle between the Mac and Windows platforms. Even the 3 button mouse works on my 2011 MacBook Pro. How do like them apples?

Autocad for Macs, huh? Maybe so, but that’s a moot point since the new Macs can run Windows programs out of the box and no additional money involved as you stated earlier. No money because everybody can find a pirated copy of Windows someplace. You were using the old Mac OS at your previous job and not OS Lion with the Intel chips. Otherwise, you would know there’s no need for the Mac version of Autocad. Autocad the Windows version will work on the new Macs. I bet you didn’t know that and probably now impressed, but can’t openly admit it.

You haven’t read the comments after your post, Heather. After reading everyone’s post, I’ve come to realize that the PC users simply do not understand or have any knowledge of the current Mac OX Lion. Their references from Macs are obsolete, because they refer to using the old Macs. I haven’t read anyone here with the latest from Apple, hence the problem. The Macs now come with dual, Intel chips and you can easily switch from Mac OS to Windows in basically 2 clicks. You have windows and all it’s software operating inside a Mac hardware. That’s the genius of Apple. The only time I ever switch to Windows system is when I use Autocad 2009 LT, which is almost never. But, it works fine and I’ve heard Sketchup works better on Macs.

As I stated below, it doesn’t make me any difference what people decide to choose, but just for people to get their facts straight. Your $1800 PC laptop cost more than an iMac or MacBook Pro. That is another myth about Mac pricing. The perception that it cost significantly more than PC.
