Christopher Patzke replied to the topic Any great tips on the exam – section C in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 13 years, 6 months ago
Be sure to review the scale of the drawing and the scale of the components! When I took this section all of the vignettes except one gave templates for required components at the same scale as the base plan. One vignette illustrated the required components at a different scale than the plan. A large majority of those sitting in the exam with m…[Read more]

I don’t know if this will help you Jo-Anmarie but I thought I would pass it along. There is such a thing as a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI). Who knew right?! A useful website for review materials could be this one: http://www.nrpa.org/Content.aspx?id=413 . It is the website for the National Recreation and Parks Asso…[Read more]

Amy you did not see the original post titled “Summer Internship with Full Time Potential.” This is the post people are responding to. The “Summer Position with Full Time Potential” was only posted after I complained and ASLA agreed to take the original post down. They reposted the position with the words “Summer Position” in lieu of in…[Read more]

If we don’t advocate for ourselves no one will. ASLA is supposed to help us but sometimes someone needs to raise their voice.

Morning Andrew. I didn’t know you had already posted on this!!
I live in the Boston area and the firm posting the position is a well known, high-end, award winning residential firm. I know I will never work for Lombardi now but once I saw the posting I immediately contacted the JobLink administrator and the Executive Committee of the ASLA…[Read more] -

Chad…while I generally agree with the spirit of what your saying I do think a professional organization that brings salaries and benefits in line with what is generally expected in other professions would be extremely beneficial to our profession as a whole. Clearly the ASLA is a failed organization that does little if anything to foster the…[Read more]

Well I am really just asking the question Andrew. If someone doesn’t ask, our profession will not evolve. At one point in history our training and expertise were valued more than they are now. Even my boss has stated that plumbers make more than I do (no offense to plumbers but 7 years of training should be compensated at a high rate). If…[Read more]

Morning Craig.
I have a Master’s degree so my opinion is a little biased…LOL
Certificates are generally not held in the same regard as a degree. A degree indicates a level of commitment that a certificate does not. Accredited programs tend to be more comprehensive and rigorous. You will get a decidedly different level of education from a…[Read more]

This could be dangerous but I’ll have a go….LOL
The first thing that comes to mind is very general but I think it affects every studio: the technology generation gap. From an employee point of view I am disheartened that I see my career path suffer because of the gap. All members of a studio should know the the basic tools of our trade including…[Read more] -

Morning Mike. The firm I work for specializes in cemetery design. I think the first thing to determine is the type of burial – full body or cremains or a combination of both. Are you direct burying the remains? Are there columbaria walls involved? Are there crypts and mauselea? Is there a “scattering gardens” for cremains? So many questions….LOL

Not at all…everyone is welcome to their opinion and forums like this allow for people to express their opinion. the challenge with forums like this is not to take it personally when someone does not agree with you.
