If possible Luke, I would recommend travel sketches over travel photography. I find sketching to be a more sought after, rare skill. Furthermore, sketches reveal more about what you are looking at and how you interpret a scene. I’ve brought personal sketchbooks to interviews that demonstrate the range of activities I do, where I’ve been, and my…[Read more]

The Illinois chapter of ASLA is looking for a landscape sketch artist to teach a sketch / rendering class in Chicago in the Spring of 2013. Any artist / designer who is interested in teaching a class please contact me at mbarcelos@valleycrest.com and we can discuss fees and travel accomodations.

Kai, I would say keep it to one page. That is what I always try to do. Cutting out something less important every time I have something to add to it. Although if you feel you have enough pertinent material to add, do so. But definitely no longer than 2 pages. I personally like the one pager.
Might take a while, all I can say is stick with it if…[Read more]

Actually, I did those relatively new to the profession a bit of a service by pointing out to them one far more affordable and easily accessible alternative than the costly online option your self-promoting here.
I have no qualms with the value and utility of your online course, I just find the asking price, far too steep and so would most…[Read more] -

Sami,
I’d recommend using ‘landscape designer’ (I’ve seen this most often) or maybe even ‘recent landscape architect graduate’. If you use ‘landscape architect in-training’ check w/your state registration board to make sure that there aren’t any ‘conflicts’.
As far as looking for jobs: the ones that generally apply to college grads would be ‘…[Read more] -

Hey Page:
You need to really get a clue here. It appears your somewhat disconnected from the true reality of the marketplace. Let me be specific, in case you can’t be.
There is massive unemployment in the design professions and thast has been pervasive going on nearly three years. You are offering a “sure-fire” or “near-fire” portfolio and…[Read more] - Load More
