JMW,
Many LA’s practice planning as a portion of their work. However, I hear much less of any public sector planners who also practice Landscape Architecture. I don’t have enough experience to consider my opinion credible as to why that seems to be the case, but I believe the understanding of “high design” as opposed to “conforming with the…[Read more] -

Hello Andrew, If you wish to give me a “Landscape Layout Drawing” them I can better suggest what plants should go where for you, Along with an itemized Bill of Quantities for Plants, Materials, Soil and other landscaping factors to be including in the approximate costs. I would like to know if we at JGW Specialists can be included on the list of…[Read more]

Peter, your comment about approaching your portfolio from a print format perspective is interesting. I think many of us who spend a lot of time at the drawing board suffer from this, and moving our personal work to digital format is a jump for some. I think that if you have a standardized filing system in place that is reflected on your co…[Read more]

To Andrew Slater, There are many species of plants from Bamboo, Climbers, Conifers, Grasses, Ground Cover, Palms, Shrubs and Trees suitable, if you can be a little more specific as to location in Hong Kong. Then I can give you actually what plants you require. James G. James Walker-Green < james@jwgspecialists.com>,

Hi everyone,
I have just won a small design job and looking for a bit of advice.
Can anyone give me a short list of plants that would be easy to source in Hong Kong and suitable for planting around an industrial site (ie very low maintenance!)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks

Thanks for the feedback, Page! It’s funny, looking back now I obviously should have clarified a number of issues you picked up on.
The document is set up in an 8×10 Blurb template (because most of my sites are portrait orientation) and the “cover page” is actually Page 1 of a Blurb template (the cover is a separate document at this time because…[Read more] -

Hi all,
I am a 4th year student who has previously worked in China and then also visited Hong Kong. Where I fell in love, with the city that is (!). Now I would really like to go back and I thought it would be really nice to spend a semester there. Do you guys have any ideas at all of courses or schools within the field of urban planning/design…[Read more] -

Hi all…Just joined and am really interested in Chinese and Japanese landscape architecture. China is what made me switch from International Environmental Policy to Landscape Architecture and so I now feel the need to give back in some way shape or form. Excitement abounds.

Hello!
Just wanted to see how many planners-turned-LAs there are. I know there is a significant amount of shared history and values, but the technical skill set of LAs set them apart. I’m considering doing the switch myself, and plan on slowly picking up the skills part-time. Are there many who have done this? Any advice?
