I am still new to Sketchup and just getting started in learning, but was wondering if the free Sketchup version can also to some basic elevations and grades or do I need to get the pro version? I got the sketchup for site design book, but is that more for the pro version?

Daniel – You’re work on SketchUp is really remarkable. My opinion on SketchUp has improved as I see how much can be done with it showing realistic conceptual landscape designs. You’re making an impression on the technology in this field.

Just a general recommendation… it is best to ask your questions in the group forum rather than in the comment box.

If you haven’t read Daniel’s book, it is THE place to learn. Other sources will help you learn the basics of SketchUp, but this book demonstrates the techniques and workflow that LA’s can use. Thanks for writing it Daniel!

I’ve read Daniel Tal’s book, and it is very helpful in breaking down the process of creating efficient 3D models. This group should be a good place to share ideas and learn new tips.

This past weekend I took Richard Scott’s Sketching on Location Workshop in Central Park. Great class. Twelve “students” from high school junior to college students to middle-aged designers. Richard is a great teacher, clear, supportive and scary good at drawing and water color. I plan on continuing freehand sketching and water coloring (?) for fun…[Read more]

A year plus ago I attended Richard Scott’s Accurate Freehand Persepective Drawing class in San Francisco and found him to be one of the clearest art teachers I’ve ever had. It was not an easy class, but he was so calm and insightful. He gave very specific instruction with steps to follow. What stands out the most is how much he enjoys what he does.

I was fortunate enough to take Richard Scott’s rendering classes in school at Cal Poly Pomona and a water coloring class with him in Florence.

The man is brilliant. He completely understands the art and the science of color, perspective and technique and knows how to utilize them very well. I would more than recommend taking any courses you can…[Read more]

I attended Mike Lin graphic workshop ( 1 week) two years ago, it was very good for me.
