depends on how the view-port is set up ultimately. i don’t think it really matters where it is as long as it is viewable and consistent from drawing to drawing.

Woodland Courtyard
This is a link to a woodland courtyard I designed for a High School with my previous firm… it was created using native plantings for our zone, and there is signage labeling each plant & an interpretative sign describing the succession process. It doubles as an outdoor classroom and gathering space…
I think that is a…[Read more] -

Well, lets look at the bright side here… if you are a woman working in a male dominated profession such as landscape architecture, you could take solace in the fact that you still have a job in this economy. ツ
Anyway, If you have talent, it will be recognized if you continue to work hard– male or female. That is my belief. I could be nai…[Read more] -

Man, that is expensive. I went to SUNY ESF, amazing school, top notch professors and great local restaurants. 8k tuition a year without fellowships, which a lot of grad students got, so around 4.5k plus cost of living. Even with the realative affordability of the program, upon graduation my debt was around 50k, which is $350 a month for the ne…[Read more]

I agree, completely.
Deryn, you may also want to look into local community colleges and/or art centers in your community, they usually have art classes which are just as relevant to brain-hand-paper as any Lin course… and they will be cheaper.
Then, youtube it up! -

I have a fine arts background and thought that I would utilize that a lot, and so far my computer rendering skills have paid much more dividends for final output. A lot of offices have people who are graphic specialists more or less (like myself), so unless you are hoping to find yourself in that role, don’t sweat the hand graphics too much. T…[Read more]

If you have no idea where to start, then don’t sweat trying to utilize digital graphics for this assignment, you’ll spend more time on learning the software than you likely spend on the project and layout… I recommend going analog on this one. Do you get to sit down with them before you are expected to produce anything to get a feel of what…[Read more]

Why should any well trained landscape architect feel intimidated by any profession? Is it really intimidation that you sense or is it something else altogether? What I mean is given the breadth of our profession, there is very little that we specialize in, yet we are proficient in so much. We literally are swimming in information on so man…[Read more]

Most all render plug-ins for sketchup highlight interiors an overwhelming majority of time, I would like to see some landscapes rendered with it, especially in the gallery page. For those of us who would be the ones pitching the software to our supereriors, it would be nice to see a finishined product that makes sense to landscape architects in…[Read more]

90% of all the jobs I have ever had (LA and otherwise) was to print out my resume, walk/drive to an office and hand it to a person of importance (if they are not immediately available, patiently wait or come back). The combination of personal contact, initiative and the opportunity to create a first impression has been beneficial.
