Jordan Lockman replied to the topic Is Revit the future for Landscape Architecture? in the forum TECHNOLOGY 15 years, 2 months ago
Our firm has for the most part switched to REVIT. We are primarily an architecture firm, so that is why we did it. It is difficult to have an accurate 3-d site fully graded out, but in plan view the program works great and Construction Documents are easier and faster. Automatic schedules and counts are a real plus. Curbs, parking, and planting are…[Read more]

Jordan Lockman replied to the topic The Suburbs that bad? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 15 years, 2 months ago
As a person I love my suburb. Living in a good sized metro area the suburbs give you a choice when it comes to where you can live. In my newer suburb there is a focus on walkable communities and parks. I live in a older home but am surrounded by newer neighbors and it is a great place to live.
There is an opportunity for Landscape Architects to…[Read more] -

Have you looked at Leed ND? That seems to apply the most to LA’s.

I do a lot of research in as many different books than I can and even take a walk through garden centers to get to know what is new and what is not working. Oh and I believe that the best way to change the system would be to volunteer with CLARB. I think that you need to be licensed with at least 5 years of experience?

It is most worth it if you can’t even make a guess at what you missed!
Last Decembers test I thought I passed with ease only to find out I failed. It turns out, I just made stupid errors that I thought I had accounted for, after 5 minutes there was not much else I needed to look at, but they give you to look at the actual book used to…[Read more]

Jordan Lockman replied to the topic Distance Learning and Landscape Design in the forum EDUCATION 15 years, 5 months ago
If you can afford it, I would recommend working as close to the field as possible. I worked on a landscape crew for my first year out of school and it helped immensely. I did get frustrated having a Landscape Architecture Degree and holding a shovel, but in the end I connected a lot of dots between what I was taught and what really happens in the…[Read more]

L.A.R.E. – ANYTHING GOES 15 years, 9 months agoI asked CLARB about two things on the redline review.
A. The extra non-aforementioned fee that raises the price by almost 50%.
B. The no personal checks. They replied with the company line that they need to pay for a room and someone to show us our test. I don’t understand why I can’t just get my redlines mailed to me and it would save the $75…[Read more]
