I think what bothered some of us was the disconnect with the LEED remark specifically. I like his work for technique and even read one of his books….but one tiny thing I always notice is that in his clearly “spring” scenes of cabins surrounded by blooming dogwoods, there is often smoke coming from the chimneys, and he shows street lights burning when it is not really dark. I’m rather sensitive to young (or career changing) people being misled as well as the public. There are already “landscape design” concentrations or full degrees out there, but to apply the same title to something else is in fact going to attract people specifically because they will see that term and “want to be LA’s” – as Andrew referenced.

Oh, and where is storm drainage and erosion control? Are we going to just concede on the matter of whether we are qualified in these areas (we have had to fight for) by just giving up? I’d like to think the state’s professionals will keep the nationally designed exam as a challenge this school but the fallout may take some time to be revealed. Sad…[Read more]

I was just editing myself on top of you, to make my original post clearer, but I tend to agree with you. Irrigation but no city planning insights? Would they know what a conditional use permit is, and how to really interface with allied but different professions on complex projects? Write, not just read specifications?

I think since our context is using CAD and Word, Photoshop, etc. and the menus say “fonts,” and that is where we make our style choices on drawings, it is that frame of reference in the posts. I don’t think I’ve even seen a familiar creative software that uses the term typeface…maybe QuarkXPress or such in another realm?
