Therapeutic Landscapes Network 16 years, 8 months agoI like new name of the group. Word healing reminds me also of the
intrinsic values of nature, and therapeutic more of practice specific for humans. So it seems this name includes both, healing power of nature by itself and horticulture therapy gardens made by human hands. Bye -

Green Streets 16 years, 8 months ago

Kim, I have seen some examples in Charleston, SC that are using some green street technologies such as curbside bioretention and permeable pavers. I would look up Liberty Hills and Oak Terrace Preserve which I believe are both in North Charleston. Here are some pics: -

Veg.itecture 16 years, 8 months agoI’ve used a variety of green roof techniques which have been more or less successful. I’m gathering information about what folks have done with green walls, the materails they have used and their success. I’ve read quite a bit about Patrick Blanc’s work but keep wondering about maintenance and costs. I’m currently looking into the nonwoven…[Read more]

Green Streets 16 years, 8 months agoI am pulling together a maintenance manual for a design studio that wants to install storm water mitigation in its projects. After reading widely, I have noticed that most information has the same maintenance guidelines. I find it difficult to believe that if sedimentation must be cleaned out 4-5 times a year from an in-street planter in Portland,…[Read more]

Golf Course Architecture & Design 16 years, 8 months agoRyan, while I agree with your assessment of renovation projects being the niche to look at these days, it takes the right client to take a “chance” on these renovations these days. With golf rounds down nationally 25-40%, it is somewhat of a leap of faith for owners to renovate their course to try to spark increased rounds. Yes, there are several…[Read more]

Golf Course Architecture & Design 16 years, 8 months agoHi Chad! Thanks for joining the group and posting a comment. You’re correct that new course building has slowed; however, I think this slow has fostered an opportunity to be creative and find ways to keep course design moving. Rather than new course construction, I have seen a high increase in existing course renovation. As existing courses…[Read more]

3ds max + landscape architecture 16 years, 8 months agoBest case situation, buy a blade server and kick your rendering jobs out to it. However, I would have to say that some of the best environs that come out of 3ds start as basic spatial models and are brought to life in post production. Animations are important to get right solely in the program and demand real power. You better have 2 computers or…[Read more]

3ds max + landscape architecture 16 years, 8 months agoI know of network rending, and have a vauge idea of how to do it, but I have yet to actually try it out. I’m currently running a laptop with 2G ram, 256Meg GeForce6800 Go Graphics Card, and a 2.17 Pentium Centrino. It isn’t fast, but it gets the job done. The dream rig I was planning before my Fiance’ got laid off was a Intel I7 processor, 32 Gig…[Read more]

Golf Course Architecture & Design 16 years, 8 months agoYes, this is a great attitude toward golf course architecture. It is just too bad that the golf market is all but dried up. Of course, I still hold out hte dream that it will return again someday!
