Participantya, I have to agree with the previous comments. 3D stuff works well in school with presentations etc. and can give you that edge you seek. Sketch-up combined with photoshop always worked well for me. I would recommend spending alot of time with Photoshop, Illustrator, and AutoCad combinations. Most firms won’t have 3D programs, but you can create nice presentation graphics with those 3 previously mentioned.

Participantok, reading it further III says “landscape contractor” to design the irrigation. Usually an irrigation designer would do that work. In this case an allowance could be used for the contractor to design it. Though it’s probably not the best idea, I guess it would work??

ParticipantIt’s always good to have a published hard copy of references, it’s more credible. Much stuff on the web is proprietary. However the web is good for pics and examples like Mark said.

ParticipantI am a recent “lucky” MLA graduate with a job. I was able to intern while going to school and that experience certainly helped me land a job. I know it’s hard to find something now, but perhaps something will open up during your masters. Times are tough in the professional realm now which gives you time to go back to school. Hopefully by the end of your masters, jobs will be easier to come by. Since you have your BSLA, have you given any thought to something than than an MLA? Personally, looking back it would have been advantageous to get into construction, or horticulture…something to supplement and strengthen your LA education. Having a degree in LA + something LA relevant can give you a better edge when looking for work.

ParticipantI’m trying to encourage an “everyday” general chat. What do the Friday chats usually entail?
