Why block the view out of the French doors with the BBQ unit?
August 26, 2013 at 6:05 pm #156950Mike MetevierParticipantI would remove the photo of yourself. Its not a good one and your not applying for a model position. I think its better to explain what programs you used to create the drawings. If you have any built work you need to put that in.

If this is something that you find interesting and could see you making a living then yes, it is something to consider. If your goal is to work on public parks then that is was you can strive for. Like any profession, there are good days and bad days. I would look into the profession in every aspect. See if you could visit firms, both small and large to have someone show you around and talk to you. Unlike what others have said here, the fact that you want to research does not mean this is not for you, or as someone said that if you have to ask its not for you. Looking into the field before you spend the time and money is smart. Some people think this profession is so arty that if you not drawn to it with some sort of “passion” then it is not for you. I disagree with these thoughts. Good luck with your research.

January 11, 2013 at 2:57 am #155736Mike MetevierParticipantThe way the school descrips itself is not relevent. They all say they are great. Harvard is best, that will get ou noticed. Your portfolio is/will be VERY inprotant. Also what experience you have is a VERY important. I dont know about the school in oregon, it may be great, just dont go by what they say about their own school. They are running a business and want your money. Ask those who went there and see what they say. I went to Michigan State University and it was a great school. I think cal poly might be better then oregon and least that is what i have heard. I dont know the others that you have listed. Good luck and expect to be unemployed if all you have is a Landscape architecture degree.

Can’t you post your resume in PDF on here or on your online portfolio?
May 5, 2012 at 3:27 pm #157636Mike MetevierParticipantwow, they escorted you out of the building???? That is not that uncommon. The bigger the firm, and the more of a jerk the HR person is, the worse you will be treated. The most important thing is to MAKE PHYSICAL AND DIGITAL COPIES OF EVERYTHING YOU ARE INVOLVED WITH AS YOUR DOING IT. Dont think you can get it later. Many firms i have worked for were nice and told me flat out that before i leave i am welcome to print out copies of my work, but you just never know, besides, when your told your laid off your not in the frame of mind to go back over years of projects and find examples of work you did.
Hopfully you still have friends that work there that will email or send you copies of your work.
May 5, 2012 at 4:35 am #157639Mike MetevierParticipantbla bla bla. Look, take them in all formats as possible. So long as your honest about what you did on the project, your fine. On my protfolio i show all kinds of work i did at other places, i state this during interviews of course to show what i did and where. I usually leave the logos of the company i worked for when i show them on line and my physical portfolio. I have never been approched about why i am showing my work that i did at a firm, in fact i have been told when i was laid off to feel free to print out copies of work i did if i wanted to.
Also, I recomend to all, as your working on your projects, make physical and digital copies for yourself, when your laid off its not the time to run around and try and play catch up.
April 18, 2012 at 1:44 pm #157877Mike MetevierParticipantNO. Find something else that interest you or, have 2 degrees.
April 6, 2012 at 11:24 pm #158182Mike MetevierParticipantYou dont mention what your BA is in, so let me get right to the point. STAY OUT OF THE FIELD OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE. Most Bachalor degrees in Landscape architecture have a 5 year program, a master has only 2 years. Most firms know better then to hire someone with a masters with only 2 years of education then to hire someown with a BLA who will have 5 years of education in the field of landscape architecture. I have worked with and meet some with a masters and frankly what they dont know is shocking. Add to that the difficulty of getting a job in the field now your better off doing something else. I promise you, if you waste your time with a masters, you will be shocked at how much more someone with a BLA degree knows more then you. I have had my BLA for 27 years, and still find this field hard to find a good job that stays stable. Many (5) layoffs in my life. Best of luck to you.
December 15, 2011 at 1:31 am #176768Mike MetevierParticipantDont make it a choice Brandon. I have been on your web site and you do not charge enough for you work. You should be charging about 8-12% the cost of construction. The fees you charge, after taxes are worth getting out of bed for.
December 3, 2011 at 3:59 am #176993Mike MetevierParticipantYes yes yes. I also have passed all the sections except grading and drainage. I am 50 yo and I have NEVER have to spec out a drainage pipe, That is what a Civil Engineer is for. For me, I pretty much just gave up, but who knows. Screw clarb.
