I think we can get the best of both mixing it. I always remember my ex-boss said: a person who can draw by hands can improve the ability to use the graphic softwares and apply the hand drawing skills in those software.
I’m hand drawing person that believe in computer never going to relace the human touch, warm, dramatic effect of a hand drawing.
But I’d been trying different techniques in my renderings, just to speed the process. I mix sketchup, photoshop and hand drawing, and I think create a very good renderings, trying to mimic the hand drawing strokes, color values, etc.
You can see my work at http://www.allaboutrenderings.net, and let me know what you think.
    Thanks,

Hi Ron, that exacly what I’m working on my rendering due the little time we always have to finish our renderings.
I think if you use some of the wet media brushes in photoshop you will get more 3d effect, and also play a little be with color value.
I invite you to see my drawings at http://www.allaboutrenderings.net, the drawing in the home page I apply a style in sketchup and render it complete in photoshop.
I hope this help you, and keep you good work.

depending of how much time you have, doing a simeple sketch, i do it by hand. I’m an hand drawn person, but at work some time you don’t have enogh time to create a rendering by hand. In my case, i create a sketchup model, you don’t need to create the whole thing. So, I pick my views, apply styles, open it in photoshop, in general I draw the vegetation by hands, and place on top, clean it in photoshop, either print out in black and white or render in photoshop. Check my drawings i let me know what you think.
    good luck.

    I agree with you.
I went to both workshops also, and I can see an amazing improvement on my graphic skills and confidence.
