Hey Bailey, good question. Are you looking at more residential design or commercial as well. I ask because I’m joining a high-end residential design firm and wondering how to incorporate some LEED ideals myself…

Haha, I thought I was the only LA Chip Foose fan. He has great graphics and works very fast and loose. He has a show called “Overhauling” which shows his renderings at least once an episode.
I like to use AD Chartpaks on Vellum as well, and to me Staedtler ergosoft colored pencils are hands down the best. Mike Lin does have great graphics. People…[Read more] -

It is beautiful, do you know how old the Wisteria is there? I tried to look up the garden but couldn’t find any information…

Ryan A. Waggoner replied to the topic Are Landscape Architects Just Being Used As Graphic Designers/Visualisers in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 15 years, 3 months ago
I totally agree with your perspective Ben. If you don’t have the LA working on the graphics or modeling tools, you may be producing graphics that don’t match your design. I think that it is very important to own many tool sets as an LA, especially in today’s environment.
I personally really enjoy the graphics (both hand and digital). As a visual…[Read more] -

And someone mentioned today that the term “xeriscaping” is actually copywritten. Apparently Florida calls it Florida Friendly planting?

Ryan A. Waggoner replied to the topic What are the best Landscape Architect qualifications and trainings to get ahead? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 15 years, 4 months ago
Hey Daryn, myself being someone fairly new in the industry I would also like to know a few opinions. My first position was in a large firm that heavily pushed the LEED accreditation which I unfortunately passed right after our office was closed. I think that it was a great thing to learn, and think it may help in a smaller office for the points…[Read more]

Congratulations Steve! That’s interesting you got to comment, mine didn’t have that option. Just so you know, they didn’t post that I was certified on the website until last week and I still haven’t received my certificate, apparently it takes awhile (maybe October for you). I was kind of freaked out at first, but I guess that’s…[Read more]

agreed, if everyone just kept a compost of food waste think how much organic matter could be kept from being “thrown away”. then that could be used for mulching, soil improvement, etc…or for systems similar to this…

i like the ideals in the video…just wish the pictures showed the growth a little better. i do like how the pushed the use of biodiversity to enhance the area. here’s a link that breaks desertification down a little further http://www.greenfacts.org/en/desertification/

Wow, this has turned into quite the rigorous and thoughtful exchange of ideas, with great points being made on both sides. I’m definitely one that is guilty of quickly jumping on any bandwagon that tries to eliminate fertilizers and shipping food hundreds of miles when it can be grown locally instead. But through this discussion I see that this…[Read more]

Cool site and a good idea. Stuff like this makes perfect sense, makes you wonder why it hasn’t been implemented at a large scale yet?? Maybe this would lead to consumers appreciating local, seasonal food again? There are plenty of organic farmers out there just waiting for opportunities like this…
