Planning Profession and Landscape Architecture 17 years, 4 months agoZoning is way to control activities, which is important for a city. I think “zoning” is also a tool for the authority to…[Read more] -

Planning Profession and Landscape Architecture 17 years, 4 months agoWell, that wasn’t he part of the quote that I was trying to emphasize, I’m not going to stand here and say that the government has cornered the market on corruption, the argument really isn’t about morality, its about social functions.
You are entitled to your assessment of Jane Jacob’s work but her contribution to urban design theory is…[Read more]

Planning Profession and Landscape Architecture 17 years, 4 months agoGood points, I suppose another important distinction to draw as we continue the conversation is that a planner’s role will vary greatly depending on if he or she is employed by a municipality or by a private sector consulting firm.
I suppose what I meant in my earlier post is that I have been impressed by the work of the private sector planners…[Read more]

Planning Profession and Landscape Architecture 17 years, 5 months agonrschimid,

Planning is an interesting subject. There are many professions that recognize the importance of good planning in our built environment but we take many different avenues to…[Read more]

The the streets on the island of Bali in Indonesia are rather amazing. A contradicting yet some how functional mosaic of temples (Balinese Hindu), tacky souviner shops, bars, resturants, massage parlors, internet cafes, etc. all spilling into a 20 ft wide alley (street) that is already full of taxis, motorbikes, donkey carts and peds.…[Read more] -

Stylin' Streetscapes 17 years, 8 months agoIn Sydney, there is a magnificent avenue of Moreton Bay Figs (Ficus macrophylla) along Anzac Parade. They’ve been there for well over a hundred years and create a dramatic canopy over this wide, major thoroughfare.

Residential Design Group 17 years, 10 months agoThanks guys for the responses. They were very helpful! Next time though, make sure to respond to the actual thread instead of posting on the wall. Once more threads get started, it could get very confusing if everyone responded on the wall. But thanks again for the help!
