Trace One replied to the topic PLAN VIEW VERSUS REALITY in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 15 years, 3 months ago
Sorry, me again, like a bad penny, but I think this is a no-brainer – there is NO relationship between harmony in plan and in reality..None at all..Similarly, there is no relationship between visual beauty in reality and in plan..That’s why they have books like “How to lie with maps.”

Ha! I like what Maui Bob says also – he is the only one who said, life is happening while you are disgruntled, so make sure you are enjoying it – when you are fifty, you will still be working, etc..
Thanks maui Bob! You live up to your name! I am geussing that perhaps you are just a very optimistic Lutheran living in Minnesota, and looking on…[Read more] -

ok, I admit defeats on Olin, since my perspective is from Hanna/Olin days, and also “classical’ is really not the right word..
design restraint is better..to describe their work as I know it..Are you guys saying there is no unity to their body of work, as their is to Frank Gehry’s ?(for example)
I geuss that is what I am looking for in Field Op -…[Read more] -

(since I like to write about myself, I will continue to indulge myself, since this site LETS me – thank you!)-
I mean, when I was in school, Hanna/Olin have a real style – classical..Andropoggon has another distinct style – very naturalistic, to be brief..Ed Bye is a real stylist – it would take some thought to articulate, but you can see and…[Read more] -

@ Noah, sorry , should have been clear in previous comment, the most of what I said refers to the article. Only the last comment to your opinion specifically of Corner, Field Op, but you seem to have correctly understood the different thoughts.. …..
I just don’t see Field Op as having a real design inspiration, unlike Garett Ekbo, or Mar…[Read more] -

these questions have nothing to do with reality, imho..nothing at all..Landscape architects do not relegate themselves to plants only..urban planners are landscape architects..To get a grip on reality one would have to refer to a survey as to who is doing what..I don’t know any municipality that discludes landscape architects from working as urban…[Read more]

I completely disagree that landscape languished prior to 1980, and I also disagree that U of Penn ecological design was happening in ‘the late eighties” – Ian McHarg started the school in the sixties, and his ideas did not change.
Just factual inaccuracies, but it is like people were BORN in 1980 – good grief, we MUST include history in our…[Read more] -

I have quit MANY jobs, and let me tell you, a job is WAY better than no job, and sometimes another job can be pretty hard to find..
seems like you should at least be able to verbalize your complaints to the boss, if you can. Sometimes bosses are actually waiting for the push-back (and look down on the…[Read more] -

perhaps they are both correct,

Mr. Quackenbush, I believe you are mistaken…or is it misteaken..? (kidding.) Aesthetic does not place a value, it only refers to art and artistic sensibilities..
something can be aesthetically pleasing because it is artistically to your taste, or it can be aesthetically offensive, or offensive to your artistic sensibilities..
I love a good word…[Read more] -

why not rent, until you can afford to buy, in the place with walkability? I think the home mortgage deduction is go ing the way of the dodo, if it has not already, and it seems to me for the good of the future of the earth (less driving!) we need to populate our inner cities – with renters!
