oh, and I forgot:
6. And I have a solution to this desperate problem, but they need to call ME!
(I am sure you know there is an open line from BP to accept public ideas for help, and something like over 7,000 ideas have been submitted.)..
Brother..
back to work.! -

It’s just not thought through, Andrew G., in my opinion, in the same way human disaster assistance has been thought through and structured. The same thing happened in the oil spill in SF bay last year – thousands of volunteers ready to help, and no mechanism to use them…
Here’s an interesting article in the NYT today regarding some independent…[Read more] -

this makes me think of a recent discussion I heard on NPR – a biologist was opining that our major effect on wildlife is that we are creating islands…Islands for wildlife..And following previous environmental logic, all wildlife in the future will be smaller..Ever been to an island with tiny deer – same species, just tiny, because they were on…[Read more]

that’s nice, jon, how does that help us? I know some thirty somethings that would argue that that sort of sixties crap got us into the state we are today..Do something. Take responsibility..Your actions have global consequences…

(and no insult intended, Dane, really just curious if your world view is rooted in somethin specific..)

Ok, Dane..Your world is not my world. There is room for both of us. What religion do you get that perspective from?

see article in NYT today, “BP sees need to ‘rationalize’ oil production in the face of declining demand” i.e., they are closing wells, to save for the future.. They are drilling shallow, they are drilling deep. Just because ANWR is off limits does not mean drilling sites are…[Read more]

BP constantly does exploratory drilling – it was an exploratory well, I am sure you know that, and they were in the process of closing it for future reference..This Sarah Palin garbage that ‘environmentalists are forcing riskier behavior” is just garbage – BP has thousands of leases in their pockets, everywhere, ready for drilling..In going after…[Read more]

If this spill keeps spilling until DECEMBER, it will be as much oil as america uses in TWO AND A HALF HOURS..
How do you feel filling up at the pump now..It made me sick to put $10 in the tank..The looming face of an oil covered gull hovered over the pumps like an apparition. -

wow! ALL the projects I work on ultimately drain to a city system, hopefully having been treated first – and that includes projects in Orange Virginia..
Sorry if I mistook humour for truth..
All right, all right, over-reacted..Alec you should write headlines, it definitely got my attention..to say the least..Apologize for over-reacting..Toilet…[Read more]

Roland, I don’t know if we are taking this to extreme – Alec is saying it is impossible to verify the science behing filtration, by stating that it might be fiction. This leaves the topic way broader than just his specific situation.

And also, Andrew, while you may not have worked on any projects that swale stormwater out to the ocean, my point was that almost all old systems go right out to the water, river, ocean, whatever. Retrofitting has been done, but man when it rains in San Diego, the stormwater, and frequently the sewage, for that matter, is dumped right out in the…[Read more]

but the purpose is not only sediment /pollution trapping, Andrew, but on-site water retention. In that case, a rain garden (which is a silly word for a simple concept) is ALWAYS better than paving, no?
And you DID say that the general feeling is if you don’t put rain gardens everywhere ‘we will all die.” I think this is mischaracterizing your…[Read more] -

I think you are mischaracterizing your ‘opposition’ Andrew. You are not going to die if you don’t do bioswales. And they do not solve all problems..(pharmaceutacal drugs.). But the basic principle that it is far superior to contain water on-site is one that the vast majority of our existing built landscape does NOT abide by..You, unfortunately for…[Read more]

I am glad, Alec, that you took the trouble to specify your question, after doing a bit of research..As you know from your cursory reading, bacteria is treated by other bacteria in the topsoil layer, and is one of the trickier aspects of greywater. .
I am offended by your labeling of ‘fiction’ something that is based on established engineering…[Read more] -

that’s right, Tim Zhang, the government can’t be trusted with healthcare, but has the organization to know when you posted on Land8, and to ‘drag you away’, and to perpetuate a scam involving engineering calculations for sediment flow..
And god forbid we let ‘the gummint” regulate oil platforms..
