You could probably add a description of your duties under the title and point out that you did project management as a part of being a landscape designer. If (should I says “when”?))) you get to the interview you surely will be asked to speak about your role in the firm and you’ll be able to get to the details.

They are both Australian natives and adapted to a wide range conditions, but I’m not familiar with them enough to advise on their preferred growing conditions. As mentioned above you really need to match the water needs closely, otherwise there will always be a problem. You could also look into different kind of agave as some of them can take more water and organic matter than others.
If you use a light colored non-organic mulch it should keep the surface cool enough (will depend on the microclimate of course). I would also consider plant maintenance, trying to prune or trim around agaves can be a pain.

Yes, you definitely should use non-organic mulch around agave. Decomposed granite, glass, rock, etc. It should be totally fine to use same materials around the shrubs. What kind of shrubs are you using exactly and what is the geographic location? A lot will depend on how much rain and heat the plants will be getting.

    Hi Sam,

I don’t know whether you’ve been to DC or not, but I found the article in the July issue of the LA magazine quite helpful. It lists all the basic attractions and seems like a good place to start. I think you can download the article from the ASLA website (annual meeting section maybe?). Hope to see you there!

Chelsea, did you have any tutoring on how to use them, or did you just picked it up/figured it out while working on a project?

Thanks, Nick. It is a good way to look at it.

I’ve done a bunch of tutorials in Rhino while I was in school and honestly found it fun and fairly intuitive to work with. Now that I have graduated and haven’t found a job yet, I don’t feel like I can afford either the program (and a PC computer since I’m a Mac user) or a class to get some more experience with it. I can’t speak for 3ds MAX, I haven’t played with it enough to form any kind of opinion, it is just another program that is mentioned.
I’m not in any way against learning these programs, quite the opposite, I think they are great, I’m just not sure how I feel when they are listed as requirement for an entry level position.

    Great! Thank you.

Thank you! I’ll be in the Inner Harbor and your suggestions will work great.

    Sounds good.

Memorial garden outside of the Jewish Museum is quite amazing.

I’m about to graduate (this Friday!). I have no job. I’m moving to another state due to family circumstances, so I’m not going to know anybody there. I’m happy though. I’m happy because I’ve been doing my thesis research in a city in Russia and after studying the city topo map for a couple of weeks I realized that they haven’t invented swales. None. In the entire city. Yes. And they wonder about inundation and flooding issues they are having (there is no underground stormwater sewer either).
I love design and fancy conceptual stuff but the idea that I can be of use to somebody just because I know about swales – yey! – is mesmerizing! Not even because there is any chance of me getting hired to do that for them. I’m happy because these simple things we know of can make a huge difference for somebody. And the right job will show up. I’m staying optimistic.

Ron, I find some of the lines a little too loose (is there a way to adjust scruffyness?), but altogether it looks really good and definitely communicates your ideas. I feel that this presentation is for the community and they seemed to have responded very positively to the bright colors and the design itself. I also thought the renderings you showed in class today were fun and very evocative.
