I would like to know, with the economy coming back and getting better what are the typical hours per week that you are working? Is it more or less than what it has been the last several years through the recession.

That is one issue that I don’t remember coming across. I would try exporting/printing and to see if they appear in the final image. I’ll think about it thought and see if I can come up with an answer. It’s just a little more difficult to know what is happening without seeing all of the settings myself. Best of Luck!

Meena you can also Preview what the layout will look like [making the images look normal] by clicking View –> Overprint Preview [it should be the first option in the drop down menu.

Zach Watson replied to the topic Do you see any valuable potentials in Landscape design/ Landscape Architect? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 12 years, 7 months ago
Andrew,I appreciate the comment and the point is well taken. I have thought quite a bit about going into development because of my background in Landscape Architecture, because I would like to have the type of control over projects that I hear so many complain about. The reason I place my comments in the 3rd person at the moment is because I fe…[Read more]

Coco your point is well taken, I have just completed my education, and have felt much the same way. I would like to see Landscape Architects take a more prominent role in the field of design. The issue that I believe we as a profession constantly hit the wall of profitability, our work generally is not something that can be sold or generate rev…[Read more]

Sounds like great news to me, I’ll just be waiting for others to read the article and come here talking about how we are Landscape Architects not Landscape Designers, and how we are being misunderstood or disrespected. 😉

Interesting article about the new generation not wanting to have to deal with cars, that goes along with the original topic.

Zach Watson replied to the topic Should the ASLA focus on employment for LAs? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 12 years, 8 months ago
George, I feel like I have to apologize to a degree, there have been a number of comments I have read both here and other places about who the government needs to get their act together and work for ‘us’, meaning they should make it so ‘we’ can do our job. After reading some additional comments on this thread I don’t think your intention was to…[Read more]

Zach Watson replied to the topic Should the ASLA focus on employment for LAs? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 12 years, 8 months ago
That is not ASLA’s job nor it shouldn’t be. If we as a profession will loose more credibility if we are approaching the government and demanding that they provide us jobs. If we can not do our work to a level that is enticing for developers/builders to come to us with their project, and they believe that another profession can do our work be…[Read more]

There is only one of those things I can comment on. In regards to re-linking XREFs, you don’t have to re-link them if you set up the file system with relative paths. Here is a link to how to setup a relative path system.

Zach Watson replied to the topic EDAW / AECOM and Landscape Architecture in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 12 years, 8 months ago
I believe it is a non issue. While it is sad to see EDAW transform into a division of AECOM, I don’t think EDAW was any more recognizable outside of the built environment industry then any other Landscape Architecture firm. Additionally there are many top firms that are beginning to either remove or simply not place the title of Landscape A…[Read more]

Great to see that other LA’s are starting to stand up and no longer happy with just being ‘The Good Wife’. The article mentions that some LA’s are starting to write credit clauses in their contracts. Is this something that anyone else has done, or do you just try to catch anything that you see and correct the misprint?

I guess in the end this is what I’m trying to promote in my little way.

Thanks for the comments, let me clear a few things up because I may have mislead a little bit, based on your comments. I’m about to complete my Undergraduate Degree (BSLA), while I am the age of a Graduate student there were a few things I needed to take care of before I entered college. Also throughout my four years here at Arizona State we h…[Read more]

Trace, while I find the work of Building Architects fascinating, their work is just different then ours. The elements that they work with inherently force them to create an experience where as for our work the elements themselves bring their own inherent experience. Now that does not mean that we can’t help create an experience with our pro…[Read more]

Jeff, thank you for the post about this project, this is someone that I have not heard about. I am currently in my last semester at Arizona State and one of my goals after I graduate is to start a collection/blog of various LA projects. Almost like a critique but because I can’t visit all of the projects in person there will be things that I m…[Read more]

While I agree with you to some degree, I see it as we don’t have to gain broad recognition from the general public. Yet we as an industry need to show to those we work with the high quality of work that we can do. People complain about how Architects are taking our jobs or other disciplines are taking our work, but if we look ourselves in the m…[Read more]
