I would be interested to talk with your group but I have other commitments that night which would not allow me to meet with you.

Is this for Ted Cook’s LA Construction III class? If not I would be interested to see some of your work if you would be open to it and I’m going to be doing a project on a neighboring topic that I might be able to pass some information along to you, as soon as I get started on the project.

Your comments in regards to allowing LA’s the ability to develop Grading/Drainage plans is a large part of what I thought I read about in the link. Here in Arizona we can not develop those plans all though I know of some Civil Firms who work with LA’s to develop the vision for the project accordingly.

I have been told by several people that just as it is a good thing to switch Universities when going to grad school it is a good idea to move companies every several years to gain exposure to new ideas and different understanding of design.

Is this post really a concern for anyone here? The replies to this topic have talked all about how this job being posted on the Lounge is detrimental to the profession because others not in our profession might see it and get the wrong opinion. My question is, how often does anyone from the general public log onto the Lounge? It was a job post…[Read more]

Katharine, I don’t think the show is based around the foundation that he is a practicing Landscape Architect. The base plot line for the show is that Rob has married a younger Hispanic girl and his process of trying to become part of the family. Rob just happens to be a Landscape Architect. Much like Ted Mosby in HIMYM.

Zach Watson replied to the topic who likes the new layout? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 13 years ago
Wow there is a lot of negative feelings toward the new layout….
Personally I like the new layout and for those who are having trouble finding the forum, there is a tab at the top (sixth one from the left) labeled forum and it will take you to the main forum directory. Additionally, through that tab I have found an option to view the recent F…[Read more] -

haha, yes we have entered the wonderful world of spec books. We only have to use one format for our project but have have already had to do some research on the CSI, DOT, and a local MAG (Maricopa Association of Governments) format. Oh so many things to learn about construction and so little time in school to learn it.

My instructor is a great guy and very experienced in the field. The General Construction notes that he is looking for me to provide are the notes that are specific to a city municipality. After thinking about it for a while after I posted this and getting some of the replies, I realized that this might not be the best place to ask because of t…[Read more]

Thanks Craig, when I get there later today I’ll stop by and see what I can find. I appreciate the feedback though because from what I have seen CD’s are the most important aspect of LA work. As I have heard before, someone can have the greatest idea in the world but if that vision can’t be relayed to others especially contractors who are…[Read more]

Craig, thank you for the ideas and I completely agree that students should not be spoon fed the information, personally I would be happy to do the leg work myself I’m just not sure where to go to find the information because it was suggested that I go to the city websites and they would have the information.

The construction project that we have for his class will involve: demo, grading, paving, plant installation, irrigation, and electrical. My instructor said the we should be able to find general construction notes on city websites and I looked for several hours trying to find them and couldn’t, so I figured my next best source for things like…[Read more]

The issue is not one of, should all parks be recreational parks or should all parks be naturalist, heck I don’t think the issue with this article is even that we should have a balance. Personally, I think this particular article is about the fact that this person does not have they type of park that they want in ‘their backyard’.
We live in…[Read more] -

Zach Watson replied to the topic Why designers are afraid of showing hand sketches to their clients? in the forum GRAPHICS 13 years, 1 month ago
I don’t know that I can speak for anyone else here, but as I am now in the midst of completing my final year of schooling, I have always been concerned of showing hand graphics in final presentations because in many ways they don’t look as ‘finished’ as computer rendered presentations.
Additionally, while I continue to look at ‘Professional’ a…[Read more] - Load More
