As a soon to be graduate I don’t know what my fellow students are planning on doing but as for myself, I’m hanging out in the Electrical Engineering field until I can once again find a position in our LA field.

I don’t know if this answers your question but from my personal experience, from the child’s stand point, there are many times that my daughter wants my wife to be there for her instead of myself. Why don’t we look at this topic from a child’s point of view rather then always approach this conversation as, ‘why don’t women get this or that?’.…[Read more]

I not sure where all of their funding comes from, I just enjoy looking at their site from time to time :). As far as your second question, I have heard someone say, great work blends seamlessly into it’s surroundings. With that context I would have to answer, yes great work should be explained. It should be explained not necessarily so that the…[Read more]

I guess my mind just goes back to a firm that an Architecture friend of mine brought to my attention. B.I.G. (http://www.big.dk/) While I know that Building Architects work differently, I love some of their simple diagrams that they have on their website. If you click on just about any project they have on their webpage and scroll through the p…[Read more]

The City Council Members were unreal, you might as well call them ‘kids in a candy store’, I don’t know that they knew what to do with themselves. Steve Jobs could have proposed a building that was design by Sven and they would have bent over backwards with praise.

In regards to the first comment about the program operating very slow, I would guess that either there are so many objects in the file that it is making the program run slow, or hardware on your computer such as your CPU and/or your Memory are not fast enough for the program. In regards to the CAD to Sketchup, Google removed that option in the…[Read more]

I have really enjoyed the Lounge, personally I go through spurts as to how much I come on here as some people might attest to, but as I now enter my Senior year of College it has been really nice to bounce ideas off of other LA’s and see both how plausible some of my ideas might be. Sometimes I wish that I had more to contribute to some of the…[Read more]

Zach Watson replied to the topic ASLA– Relevant? or Exists only to sustain itself? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 13 years, 6 months ago
Worker, I would tend to agree with you about a conflict of interest but how many entries there are in a typical year? If there are 20 entries and more than half of them are from firms that are highly involved sponsors of the chapter then it would not be that surprising to have those firms be the award winners, but as Jason said it would be nice t…[Read more]

While I have have not been involved with the profession for long, and only in the last couple of years started to pay attention to ASLA, I would have to that I am pleased with the effort that I have seen from ASLA. Of course I enjoy LAM, but they are working on developing the Sustainable Sites Initiative. As stated before we now have R…[Read more]

Thanks I did a similar search online and found similar results, but I wanted to see what other people such as yourself thought and had practiced in the discipline. I think I will just go with the understanding that as long as everything is consistent then it doesn’t really matter.

See I completely agree with you that when the site is ‘sideways’ on the paper the north arrow should be to the left, but we looked at several projects from other disciplines like civil engineers that they all oriented the north arrow to the right. Personally even ever possible I will always point the arrow to the left but I was just wondering…[Read more]

Tanya your commentary takes this discussion to a place that i think we should not go. When we start looking at numbers and stating that one group is being discriminated because the percentages are not equal, then we potentially start looking at how one group should be encouraged to join a profession and consequently the other group…[Read more]
