I saw the title of this post and my first thought was, AAHH not another topic like this…. Once I saw the example, I realized that I have spent the last 2 1/2 years spending money and time to become an LA and now…it’s all worthless. 🙁 Sad Day.

I like the idea of a digital badge to put on your profile pic like some site overseers have the 8 logo in theirs

That is really funny to see you compare the two because it is a thought that has never crossed my mind.

I downloaded the program about 2 weeks ago and I have used it only a little bit. But I don’t quite understand how the viewport system in paperspace works in the program. I’ll be interested to see what others say about it.

Zach Watson replied to the topic Working over 40 hours? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 13 years, 11 months ago
While working at the firm for 3 years during the ‘good times’ there would only be a couple of times a year where we would work more than 40 hours a week. But our motto in the office was, ‘hurry up an wait’ we always seemed to be waiting for the civil engineer, architect, the city, or some other agency to get their stuff in order so that we could…[Read more]

Zach Watson replied to the topic Net-Zero in the forum SUSTAINABILITY & DESIGN 13 years, 11 months ago
LOL that was an enjoyable post to read. I would have to say that I adhere to the same understanding when it comes to this net-zero concept. I got to thinking of it because of the City of Dreams Pavilion competition where everything in the project needs to be: biodegradable, compostable, recyclable, net-zero, blah, blah, blah. Don’t get me wr…[Read more]

So then does that mean that one has to account for all of the emissions that were used to created the building material and off-set them also? Then my biggest question in regards to that, how can one begin to calculate those types of figures?

First thought – Uncomfortable
Second thought – why not give people the ability to sit how and where they want, we should not force people to sit specific ways because of the design. -

Haha, yes I watched the news clip about the coyotes being brought into the city to control pests, but I just thought it was a funny article about bringing wildlife into the city for a specific reason. I mean both instructors that I have right now really like the idea of creating environments in which native animals could survive to some degree…[Read more]

Zach Watson replied to the topic Section D? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 14 years ago
Based upon the instructors comments during class as both her and the TAs walk around class and answer questions I would have to say that there are quite a few people that are struggling with the concepts (more than half the class). In last vignette we had to grade a proposed parking lot and then place the elevation of the storm drain’s rim, and…[Read more]

Ok thanks for the clarification Jordan, we have talked a little bit about the LARE but not in great detail so I got that one mixed up. 🙂 Now that I know what Section D is about I can totally understand why people struggle with it so much. I mean when it is a national test and each region has individual parameters they have to work within, and…[Read more]

Got ya, that makes sense, it’s just one of those things that I find interesting only because I only hear about section D and not any of the other sections of the LARE.

haha that is a great example of taking what I said and twisting it around to a way that I had not looked at it. Now that I’m thinking about it, part of my problem is that when I start the design process and I begin putting things on paper, an image of what an individual part of the project becomes visible in my head and because of that image I…[Read more]

But isn’t is great to see how others see and understand things? Each of us have different understanding and different ways of approaching design.

Thanks for those stories TO, I always find the stories about how people use the space and its functionality very interesting because we all have our own ideas of how things should work.
Here I guess is the essence of my questioning my understanding, what makes one concept for a specific space, a good and functional idea and another one not? While…[Read more]

See and this is what is so interesting to me about design but at the same time really frustrating me, personally at least with where I am in my design development level I would never propose that for my concept but based upon what you just said the design of space works well. I just feel like there is something that I’m missing but I can’t put my…[Read more]

Thanks for everyone’s input, over the last 24 hours I have given this quite a bit of thought, and one point that I want to mention is the idea of ‘what is the soul of the space?’ or ‘what is the soul that will be brought to the space?’.
The architecture students went to the Salk Institute earlier this semester and took a few photos, when I saw it…[Read more]
