3ds max + landscape architecture 16 years agoMy experience with 3ds max 2010 on Windows 7 Enterprise x64 has been very good. Its certainly a huge step up from Vista. I’ve got a nice set of graphics cards though so maybe thats the difference. What kind of hardware are you running?

Very reputable. I worked for two (the) OSU LAs and the LA department head at the university (Idaho) that I went to is an MLA from OSU.

We had Jane Amidon lecture at CSU last year. I didnt realize she was from Ohio, I thiught she was from Austin. She’s smart.

The program is strong, Jane Amidon is the current chair and she is a forward looking landscape architect and accomplished academic. They also have the help of Jason Kentner and Sarah Cowles who add a lot of depth and vitality to the program. The Knowlton School of Architecture has good resources (computing/design library/fabrication) and the…[Read more]

3ds max + landscape architecture 16 years agoSo what are people’s experiences with windows 7 and max? I am running 7 professional 64bit and max 2010 64 bit and having some problems, mainly graphics card related. very low fps which is making it hard to model. though I am hoping that max 2011 which comes out in the next month will help.

Aotearoa New Zealand LA's 16 years agoNot a lot of pure Landscape Architecture jobs out there right now. You need to get networking. I’ve had some contract work from asking around through people I’ve been involved with over the years. Keep busy, the NZILA always needs help with events like conferences, spring lecture series and the like. Volunteering still keeps your hand in the game.

Eddie George, the NFL player graduated from the with a BLA.
I’ve met some good people from that program over the past few years. From what I hear it’s a good program. I’m not sure if they’re breaking any new ground or what though..

I don’t know what Italy is like, but you would not be allowed to build retaining walls 4 meters high in Virginia. I think the highest allowed by building code is 8 ft.. This height would require stepping back, in 8ft. sections..
May have nothing to do with italy, also your project may be a school project.
But I’m just sayin’..couldn’t do it in virginia..

On to what Nick said,
Personally, there should always be evidence at the end of the day that you processed something, whether in school or in the working world. An old teacher of ours encouraged just going and drawing, showing something on a piece of paper is something more than just prolonged research or “meditating”. I personally use collage in…[Read more]

the “stones” modules (http://www.smartslope.com) have holes in the bottom of the module, which a Maccaferri (Italian Co.) grid reinforcement is sewn through, which provides one of the strongest connections in the industry, for what that is worth. The extra excavation for the grid is costly, but necessary at that height. I am happy to help, if needed;…[Read more]

L.A.R.E. – ANYTHING GOES 16 years agoHonestly I wouldn’t try to take them both at once….study your fanny off for one or the other, pass it, and then take the other in December. I thought site design was a lot easier; I took a weekend workshop that gave me good insights into CLARB world (it’s not about beautiful design!). Work out your shortcuts on parking and bus turnarounds…[Read more]

Rob, send me an email address and I’ll send the spreadsheet file. I thought I uploaded it but can seem to see it on the post.

Rob, it took some time but I found a copy of the planting manual each student had to assemble for our class. Unfortunately it wasn’t in electronic format. I started a spread sheet with all of the common names but haven’t finished adding all the scientific names. Anyway, I’m posting where I am so you can start your study.
Hope this helps. -

Totally agree with Nick – I really like Illustrator for diagramming because of the ease of drawing and manipulating lines. It can also be a decent program for doing plan graphics, although the files tend to get really large. The added benefit of using Illustrator is that that you can open .pdfs from AutoCAD in Illustrator and work directly with…[Read more]
