I don’t have any cool comments to add about school-campus design, just questions:
Do you know the availability/capacity of the on-off site infrastructure (water, sewer, drainage?
What are the onsite soils?
What are the local and state Permits that are required?
Will the school program include Natural Grass fields, if so will you need to i…[Read more] -

Design Technology 16 years, 5 months agoIs anybody using VUE? It is pretty good though most materials would have to be custom made. Good interface with Max and is import/export.

For some reason I thought that was it! I interviewed with them…they do seem like a great firm! Best of luck!

I’m with Les on this one. It feels like buying a Hybrid to save some emissions. You are paying way more money, consuming even more materials, and getting rid of a perfectly good car.
It does look really cool though.

For conifers, cut little cones out of household sponges to correct scale and paint (or leave unpainted depending on the sponge/model color). It’s a little labor intensive but inexpensive.

Excellent Todd, thanks!
Our site also has significant grade change and will likely be leed certified.
Thanks for taking the time to attach plans, much appreciated. Nice work too btw..

I work for Gage Davis Associates in Scottsdale, AZ. We are a professional consulting firm that provides specialized land planning and development consultation services. We recently completed a master plan for a K-12 LEED certified school in the Denver area in concert with DLR group as the project architects.
The site was classified as a…[Read more]

Yes, actually there is some interesting topo both on and off site. We’ll have grading and drainage issues. Interesting, sort of retro architecture and excellent views to mountains.
The site is basically a clean slate otherwise with mostly residential and open space surrounding. I’m generating program right now, so some examples of what has been…[Read more]

Love the video. Ents would go ape wouldn’t they?
I would like (or not) to see what would happen to the trees under major electronic acceleration and interview any resident squirrels to determine levels of disorientation. Would they still find their nuts?
More practically, mark north on trees before transplanting to containers then reorient at…[Read more]

One stump is equivalent of a 20 foot container imported from africa and then they are going elsewhere so i hope the point is made well bearing in mind the carbon taken to get these stumps here. In fact the total cost could have gone a long way toward replanting the origin rainforest.. As wood being imported for timber has to be baked to kill any…[Read more]

Ask over phone at a dolls house shop – their stuff is bigger but some folk use 1/100 for bigger plots like model villages. One such tip they have is representing soil with dried and ground tea from used tea bags. I have only used, at school for a tudor town made of card, painted brads that you use for nailing on roofing felt which come in…[Read more]

I’m new to your group and new to landscape architecture, currently enrolled in the masters program at the Illinois institute of Technology in Chicago.
I was hoping to gain some insight from this group with regards to healing gardens and urban agriculture. My latest school project requires both programs previously mentioned. If you have…[Read more]

I think the concept for this installation is brilliant and I understand why she exposes the roots rather than standing the trees upright as originally intended. The impact of the message seems better in the photo with the juxtapositon of people and the tree roots rather than the overall shot which looses a lot in translation. Definitely an…[Read more]

LEED in Landscape Architecture 16 years, 5 months agoI am currently working on a classroom addition for a high school which is a LEED project. We are designing a central courtyard that demonstrates a variety of LID features. These include porous concrete paving, four rain gardens and a cistern that collects rain water from the roof. Most of the materials being used have some recycled content. We are…[Read more]
