Pacific Northwest 16 years, 4 months agoHi Lisa, I studied at UW in the LA program there.
I think the stonework both in how it was used/located in space and how it was finished stood out to me as being particularly of a PNW style.

They are typically designed by large teams of profesionals, making it difficult to identify individuals that are responsible for the overall design. Also, they often evolve over time and use many different consultants as needs arise. I worked for a Six Flags park in college, and I know rides are often sold to them as a turn-key operation. They…[Read more]

I did! It was a design element within my MLA-thesis…which dealt with ecological remediation systems, thematic planning, and the use of a succession model, both literal and metaphoric, for integrating the science of site decontamination, individual and collective engagement in physical and social processes of remediation, and development of a…[Read more]

Thanks everyone for your insightful ideas. David, this treetrains graphic is very similiar to what I had envisioned for my park. Can you tell me who designed it so that I can cite them in my presentation? I will be sure to post a graphic of my presentation board in a few weeks!

here’s a similar idea used for an urban plaza concept. The site and context was all about remediation and brownfield reclamation, with disturbance and succession being powerful themes. The trains served as both dynamic space-makers and metaphor. The appropriate solution when introducing the moving tree idea is to consider the place and cultural…[Read more]

Hey David,
Working in Europe (Germany for me) is quite different than what I have known to be working here on the West Coast. I did a summer Internship back in 2000 at a Landscape Architecture Firm in Duesseldorf Germany and it was a lot of fun. The people there were really nice and also very understanding being that that was my first office job.…[Read more] -

I started using Revit in 2004 in my own Landscape Architecture practice doing residential design. I found it not so great with quick conceptual design. For conceptual work, I prefer hand sketching over plan or 3D view print outs of the existing conditions or photos. I have found that software design programs are too cumbersome and slow compared to…[Read more]

That´s a nice concept!!
I thought about it a little and came to a solution I may end using on my own final thesis for school: Use water channels as rails, the trees and shrubs would float on their boxes and be rearrangeable.

Whoa – sorry! Just saw this! So, I passed Section C and could help you with that if you want. I’m slacking and not taking B, D, and E until next spring but need to start studying to get a head start.
I’m living in Evanston now but am in the city often. If you want to study together, shoot me an email: susansevcik@gmail.com.
Good luck!

Maybe not quite what you are looking for, but a very cool project that incorporates moving trees:

I am interested in this as well because my husband may be relocated to Paris. I do speak conversational French but have heard it is very difficult for Americans to find work in France. I am thinking of trying to do an internship for an international firm or spend my time there as developing a series of drawings, paintings, and design.

What age are the patients? Is it for a specific type of addict? How does the center treat the various addictions? Do they incorporate horses in the rehabilitation?
I think it would be a good idea to call up or visit a few different facilities and ask them for some ideas on programming elements that would be an extention of what they are trying to…[Read more]
