SITES is specific to the site (from the building skin out) and can apply to projects that would not be certifiable in LEED such as parks, streetscape and similar. Go to sustainable sites to find out more. Especially review the pilot certified projects.

What I’m seeing: Brexit has caused screeching halts across architecture firms in Britain, seems like we’re taking similar approaches in doing international business; firms are bracing to lose H1B workers, younger US workers seem to be asking for more and doing less to take advantage of that; funded work is continuing / unfunded or funding pending…[Read more]

Could you please explain how it worked for you? Even I have studied AutoCAD, I don’t have any practical experience.

After an incredible first week for the new administration, I think we can count on them to dot all the ‘I’s and cross all the ‘T’s. Considering how smoothly things are going, I believe our omnipotent billionaire president knows what’s best for us. Relax Landscape Architects; we can go back to making lots of money building roads in dry creek bed…[Read more]

“I was just wondering – are you able to set the elevation to ‘0’ for your first measurement – like you can on a zip level? (For example – make the house floor level ‘0’ & the all the other elevations would relate back to that.)”
That is exactly what it does. The first point that you shoot will be 0,0,0 (x,y,z coordinates) every time and everything…[Read more] -

Thank you so much for your in depth reply. Great to hear how you use the Disto it out in the field.

I have a feeling we are going into a boom period as design professionals. Constructions going to be firing on all cylinders for a while building things that we desperately need to build, then there will be another crash. I just hope I can make enough during the boom to make it through the next bust.

Bob – I love America just like you do. The difference is that I appreciate the beauty of the diversity that we have. Living and working with people from different countries and faiths has made my life richer. I’ve learned that there are a few bad apples, but overall people want the same thing. They just want to live their lives in peace.

Dave-thanks for the support. I may have come on stronger than I should have, but I’m just tired of people wrapping themselves up in the flag and claiming to be patriots, while they incite a climate of fear. It’s like you disagreed with your Republican friends and neighbors, but you never looked at each other as enemies.

First I want to start out by saying that I’ve been a big fan of yours for some time now Leslie and I always appreciate your input, even when it does go over my head. Many of the guys I went to high school with in a small East Texas town close to the coast went on to become welders, pipefitters, machinists, millwrights, etc. They work on projects that are only going to last a certain period of time, primarily in refineries near the gulf. Once those projects are done, they take a few weeks off (as long as t…[Read more]

Hopefully, the idea is not to stop the infrastructure work from happening by not hiring more government workers, but to hire it out to private sector companies that demonstrate the best abilities and efficiency for the specific project type. That is the expectation is that it opens opportunities for any of us to fill a need.
When a government…[Read more] -

Hi Philippa,
I did get the tripod package. You are correct that the tripod is not great for the outdoors. I got a regular survey tripod and an adapter nut so that the unit can sit firmly and steady. I don’t regret buying the kit because it comes with a good case to carry it safely and you need the piece that sits on top of the tripod which co…[Read more] - Load More
